This project is a call to action—not just to bring this story to life, but to stand with anyone who’s ever had to dance through grief to celebrate love. It’s a chance to show the world what love looks like when it refuses to be erased. And the importance of chosen family.

Mission Statement

The music video for Me Duele will acknowledge the pain that is felt when someone’s family member chooses not to show up to their wedding because of their opposing views toward the LGBTQ+ community. However, the music video will also reveal to us the beauty that exists in chosen family.

The Story

What inspired the concept for Me Duele? Read more about the backstory here <3

After her parents and family chose not to attend her wedding because she was marrying a woman, Pardon Me Sir's lead vocalist, Michelle Vizcarra, expressed her pain the way she knows best: through songwriting.

The pain she felt from this situation gave life to her band’s newest single: Me Duele.

Michelle specifically wrote Me Duele in Spanish as a letter to her parents and family–also as a letter for countless more Latine parents and family members who unfortunately have opposing views toward the LGBTQ+ community.

This music video for Me Duele is more than just a creative project. It’s a form of healing, a declaration of truth, and a space for those who’ve been silenced, have felt unloved or shamed for loving openly.

This project is a call to action—not just to bring this story to life, but to stand with anyone who’s ever had to dance through grief to celebrate love.

It’s a chance to show the world what love looks like when it refuses to be erased, and the importance of chosen family.

So, who is telling this story? Two Queer Latina creatives who are ready to share their truths.

Shortly after writing and recording the song Me Duele, Michelle reached out to Writer and Director Jessica Garcia (Jesse), who has previously worked on other LGBTQ+ projects. Jesse immediately understood the emotional weight of the story and the urgency to tell it with care.

As the songwriter for Me Duele, Michelle's voice comes from direct experience. Writing this song was a way to process the absence of her family on her wedding day. Her perspective brings authenticity, vulnerability, and purpose to the work. And as a filmmaker who is determined to bring Queer Latine representation to the big screen, Jesse is prepared to acknowledge the pain Michelle felt, while at the same time celebrating the beauty that exists in chosen family.

Together, Michelle and Jesse are creating a visual experience that honors queer love, chosen family, and the resilience of those who continue to show up for themselves—even when others do not.
