Mission Statement

When I was in middle school, I encountered a similar situation. At the time, I didn't fully grasp how wrong it was, and I let people around me act as if it were acceptable. As I matured, I understood the harm it caused. I hope this film gives girls the courage to speak up and recognize the wrong.

The Story

Hailey, Lead, 15:
Hailey is going through a challenging phase as she enters high school for the first time. She's contending with the awkwardness of adolescence, undergoing physical changes, attracting male attention, and striving to fit in with a group of girls. Despite the superficial nature of these challenges, she tolerates them. While Hailey is eager for connection, she is also apprehensive about making any mistakes that might jeopardize her chance to join a friend group. In her relationship with her mom, Hailey is somewhat distant, adhering to the belief that moms aren't considered cool and can be embarrassing. As Hailey goes through this time, her main struggle is figuring out where she truly belongs, and she fears that speaking up will ruin everything.

Miles, Lead, 18:
An upperclassman who finds himself at the high school welcome week flirting with the younger high school girls. They all go to one of the girl's houses where they all hang out. He then takes Hailey to the bathroom where he forces her to participate in a sexual situation. Miles doesn't think he did anything wrong and he walks out confused why she got upset.

Mom, Supporting:
The role of Mom is crucial in this film. As we transition to high school, we often begin to feel embarrassed and desire independence from our parents, and this film delves into that experience. Ultimately, Hailey is faced with the decision of whether to confide in her mom about what happened or to disregard it, a choice we all must make at some point.

Lily, Supporting, 15:
Lily is loud, always the planner, and super social. She appears very confident and outgoing on the surface, effortlessly drawing friends towards her. She has ADHD, and growing up with an older sister aged her quickly. Her friends always appreciate her fun and vibrant personality, and she often feels the pressure of being the one who brought all the girls in her group together as friends. She has a deep affection for Hailey and initially became her friend in elementary school, creating a sense of obligation to stick by her side despite her slower maturation compared to everyone else. She feels a twinge of hurt when Hailey kisses Miles, especially since Miles was her crush. The situation is even more painful because Hailey wouldn't have been there that night if it weren't for Lily.

Caroline, Supporting, 15:
Caroline is an anxious person who tries her hardest to fit in at school. She grew up somewhat spoiled but sometimes questions the authenticity of her connections, always second-guessing if her friends are only friends with her for her wealthy upbringing. She befriends Hailey, but their relationship remains distant. They only hang out in groups, never alone, and their conversations revolve solely around boys and gossip, never delving into deeper subjects. Caroline frequently yields to peer pressure and doesn't always act authentically to impress those around her.
