The Story
Mega Blood Moon: The Freelancer is a film about regret, longing, the lies we tell our loved ones- but mostly its entirely about hating your job, and making the moon explode.
The story follows a Freelancer, slacking off on the last day of his work contract, the only person in the building. That is until a mysterious Mega Blood Moon casts it's light down on the world.
Things crumble quickly as The Freelancer realizes that not only is he not alone, but that he is being hunted. Under the crimson glow of the Mega Blood Moon, The Freelancer will have to fight for survival in order to make it out alive.

The film is a horror comedy that was made on a zero, if not fewer, budget.
We filmed it in secret at the directors workplace, boondoggled our friends into helping out, and spent over a year filming on nights and weekends.

It is the result of the combined efforts of a very small group of people, all working towards the goal of making something fun, surprising, and a little weird. We're incredibly proud of what we've managed to do with very little.

Even more impressive, the film is just about done. The hiccup comes with getting it over the finish line.
This project came to be as part of a larger idea: The Mega Blood Moon.
Mega Blood Moon started as a writing exercise during the pandemic. The goal was to keep people creating even while trapped inside. It prioritized fun and collaboration over structure and screenwriting rules.
During that time, the project grew. And grew. And grew. And some of the scripts seemed really fun to make. And people really wanted to make them.
This movie was the direct result of the Mega Blood Moon idea. It was a collaboration of filmmakers who set out to make a feature film because that's what they became filmmakers to do. They wanted to get past the intimidation of the industry and the "what if's" that are a massive roadblock to so many incredible creatives.

The even more incredible thing is that it helped inspire people to develop their own Mega Blood Moon movies. People who needed a push, and who needed to know there are others just like them, willing to help them, and that they'll make something- well, maybe not broadly meaningful, the moon explodes in every Mega Blood Moon movie- but meaningful to them as creators.
The Freelancer has been self funded by the director, Ben Floss, all the way through to this point. It's had a production crew of three people (and sometimes less) spending a year of nights and weekends seeing it through to completion.
Now, at the finish line, a little extra help would go a long way to not only finishing the film, but getting it out into the world for people to see.
Heck, for you to see. To help show that there is a community of independent filmmakers dedicated to helping independent filmmakers make their independent films-
-because all stories are welcome to dance eternal under the crimson light of The Mega Blood Moon.

Right now Mega Blood Moon is in the final stages of sound mix, and we're already in talks with sales agents about distributing the film.
Getting the film past this point, with marketing, promotional material, as well as additional distribution costs, is where the trouble lies.
The project has been fiercely independent up to this point, but self-funding a project of this scale can only go so far without assistance.
We aren't the children of wealthy parents, we don't have insider connections to investors, we don't have the luxury of infinite resources- We're working class filmmakers, stretching what little time, money, and energy we have to get this project done.

The Freelancer is just one of, hopefully, many Mega Blood Moon films to come.
Mega Blood Moon is a collaborative anthology series of films, the goal to build a network of independent filmmakers and help those without resources to create their own feature films.
The Freelancer is not only a complete story in it's own, but a proof of concept that good friends and a scrappy drive can lead get ambitious projects done.
Any and all money over 100% will be going back to the crew, of whom willingly (and incredibly generously) volunteered their time. Their compensation is our priority stretch goal.
And if we really go gangbusters, all of that money will be directed towards the next Mega Blood Moon movie. Several of the crew of The Freelancer have started and/or finished scripts already.
With this film getting off the ground and out to a wider audience, we're closer to building a community of independent filmmakers who want to see their visions come to life- and also watch the moon explode.
