Mission Statement

This film examines the statistic, "1 in 5 women will be sexually assaulted or raped during her time in college" through a complex, real female protagonist and invites audiences to bring this topic into the light to inspire real change.

The Story

MEGAN IS A GOOD GIRL

ULB SAG-AFTRA woman-led Revenge Mystery/Thriller feature film shooting in NJ.

Our film takes horror movie tropes and flips them inside out through a protagonist who is as likable as she is flawed, subverting audience expectations to prove why the 'perfect victim' doesn't exist.

SYNOPSIS

Senior Investigative Journalism major Megan is raped by the star of the wrestling team, Brice Tinney, on the brink of the college wrestling national championship. She reports it but detectives are slow to investigate due to his status in the community and rich-donor mother, who also happens to be the dean of students at their college. That week, two of Megan's friends are viciously, and seemingly randomly, murdered and another one of Brice's previous victims is attacked and left for dead. Megan is convinced these events must be related to her own assault--the golden-boy rapist has escalated and must be the perpetrator of all these crimes. With a police department strapped thin and justice for all of these crimes seeming less and less likely, a determined Megan puts her skills to use to solve the crimes on her own--for her murdered friends, and for herself. Culminating in one final, epic battle in which Megan lures the killer to come after her, she proves why there’s no such thing as a perfect victim.

VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN - OUR APPROACH

Megan Is A Good Girl is a woman-led revenge mystery/thriller with splashes of horror, that pays homage to the iconic thrillers/slashers of the 80s & 90s but through a modern perspective. While films like Halloween, Friday the 13th, the original Scream, and much more, have inspired horror films and all their subgenres, we would like to tell our story with a bit of a different approach, specifically when it comes to showing violence against women.

There are plenty of films that show gratuitous violence against women, but our film will NOT be doing that. Instead, we take an artistic approach where the audience's minds will fill in the blanks. Cutter's attacks will always be left just out of view. The only on-screen violence against a woman will be at the end, when she is in more of a position of power and engaged in a fight, rather than an attack.

WE ARE *THRILLED* TO BE TELLING THIS IMPORTANT STORY

The best films not only entertain but challenge us and ask us to see the world through a sharper lens. Sexual violence, particularly on college campuses, remains a widespread and deeply underreported problem. Survivors are often silenced by fear, shame, or institutional inaction.

Our film approaches this topic with care, nuance, and emotional honesty, while also balancing it through the lens of a Mystery/Thriller that keeps you guessing until the very end. By blending socially conscious storytelling with a compelling narrative, we draw the audience in both emotionally and intellectually. This genre approach allows us to explore trauma, accountability, and truth in a way that’s both accessible and impactful.

This is more than just a film. Megan Is A Good Girl is a conversation starter, a mirror to our culture, and a rallying cry for justice. You'll try to guess 'WHODUNNIT' but we promise, you won't be able to.

REPRESENTATION MATTERS

This sensitive subject matter deserves to be told with the utmost care, and our Above The Line team is doing just that. Our film is written by, directed by, executive produced, and line produced by women.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

The percentage of films directed by women continues to not crack 20%. Megan Is A Good Girl is changing things through incredible, award-winning director Amanda Pinto.

"I am interested in telling a story that doesn’t sensationalize trauma, but instead stays with the victim in the aftermath—the self-questioning, the silence, and the slow unraveling of trust in the institutions and people who are supposed to support them. One in five women will be sexually assaulted during college, yet so many of those experiences go unspoken or disbelieved. My intention is to tell this story with restraint and honesty—to sit with discomfort, to steer clear of tired tropes, and to hold space for the contradictions survivors often carry. There is no such thing as a “perfect victim,” and I hope to create a world in this film where survivors can relate to Megan and feel vindicated in her mission."

– Amanda Pinto

FUNDRAISING GOAL

Our Executive Producers have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to bring Megan Is A Good Girl to life, securing funding through a combination of investors, donations, brand sponsorships, and NJ state tax incentives. Thanks to their efforts, we’ve made incredible progress. But to confidently move into production and fully realize our vision, we still have a bit more to raise. Every contribution helps. All donations made are tax-deductible through our Co-Producer, Medicine Show Theater Ensemble/Normal Ave, a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Arts Organization.

Every dollar raised goes directly to the production of the film:

  • Cast & Crew Labor

  • Meals & Crafty
  • Gear Rental
  • Insurance/Worker's Compensation
  • SAG-AFTRA contributions
  • Payroll taxes

TAX DEDUCTIBLE DONATIONS

All donations made to Megan Is A Good Girl are 100% tax-deductible through our Co-Producer, Medicine Show Theater Ensemble/Normal Ave, a registered 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Arts Organization. Your generous contribution not only helps bring original, independent storytelling to life; it also supports the arts in a meaningful, tangible way. Every dollar goes directly toward production, and your support is recognized and appreciated at every level.

WE CAN'T DO THIS WITHOUT YOU

This film would not be possible without the support of you, our passionate, generous, and inspiring community. Your belief in stories that matter keeps independent film alive, and we are deeply grateful for every contribution.

The film industry has weathered tremendous challenges in recent years... from a global pandemic to historic labor strikes, and we’re still rebuilding. In moments like these, the power and necessity of independent storytelling is more important that ever. brighter than ever. Indie films don’t just entertain, they take risks, spark dialogue, and amplify voices that often go unheard. With your help, we can bring this story to the screen. And Hollywood tends to favor prequels, sequels, and is taking less and less chances on brand new Intellectual Property. So we have to greenlight ourselves.

THE VIBE OF WHAT YOU'LL SEE ON SCREEN aka TONE

We take visual inspiration from genre films such as It Follows, Promising Young Woman, and the Scream franchise. Director Amanda Pinto and Cinematographer Jake Nathanson's visual style will include cool exterior light and sparse practicals that cast a new light on Megan’s once-vibrant living space as she dives deeper into her search for a killer. When it comes to the wrestling matches, visceral close-ups and concentrated light sources will create a heightened masculine environment that mirrors the violence being enacted on the female student body.

FEEDBACK ON THE SCRIPT

“The script flirts with the rape-revenge genre (more than flirts, maybe even goes out with a few times?) and does a great job of making Megan's experience feel real and relatable. ” -Slamdance Screenplay Competition

"Paige is able to somehow split the writing style between two genres. At times I felt myself slipping into the horrific drama of the story then... somehow... moments later I found myself back running through the streets of a horror.” -Cinzia Coassin, CGA

“The material showcases a topical central element with strong character-based qualities, and it intelligently blends this with what would otherwise be surface-level slasher movie qualities, thus creating a compelling hybridization.” -Slated
