Mission Statement

This film tackles the issues and hardships of being a sex worker under the predatory male gaze. The vulnerability and scary nature of having to trust a random client, unsure of their intentions and if they are as docile as they claim to be.

The Story

Fallen on hard times, a struggling college student takes up sex work in a desperate attempt to keep herself and her mother afloat. After meeting an ominous, anonymous client, she is forced to play a part in his twisted fantasy.

Kendra, a sophomore in college is going through the toughest time in her life. Everything seems to be going downhill and her Mom's mental health has been declining after a corporate layoff. In a desperate attempt to avoid losing the house, Kendra in secret becomes a sex worker. Her prayers are answered when she meets a client who is offering more money than she could ever need.

Even with the warnings from her co-workers Bentley and Isabelle, she is tempted into going to his house; what starts as a strange hook-up with his wife slowly gets worse, forcing Kendra to fight for survival to escape the grasp of the client. Will she escape or will she be another part of his "family"?

Midnight Callgirl is based on the sexual encounters I had during college. Most of the client's dialogue is lifted from the off-putting moments I felt during that time and the moments of fear for my safety when things got too heavy. After graduating college in 2022, I finally sat down and wrote a script that became this short. My inspiration besides my own experience is the stories told by my friends who are currently in the sex work industry. Along with the dangers of parasocial relationships tied to this profession.

With overlapping themes, I researched and wanted to take that feeling of objectification and danger and translate it into my writing. I wanted to write something that doesn't glorify sexual violence like most films or shows do. I wanted Kendra to be human, not just a sex worker, not just an object, but as real and vulnerable as the real women in that position.

KENDRA - (20's)

Kendra is a kind and selfless college student who is struggling to get by. Between college and family, she chooses her mother every single time. Even with her mom's attempts to say everything is okay, she wants to prove her worth and lift a burden off her mother's shoulders.

JOHN DOE - (40's)

He is a mysterious man with a faux fatherly charm, drawing people in with his kind and gentle nature before showing his true colors. (His Face Is Never Shown)

JANE DOE - (30's)

The wife of John Doe. She is a mostly stoic woman who follows her husband's fantasies. It is unclear if she is a willing participant or doing it as an act of servitude.

BENTLEY & ISABELLE - (20's)

Kendra's co-workers and newly made friends that are there to support her and make sure she stays out of danger.

MOM - (40's)

A strong woman who is a few feet from rock bottom. She loves her daughter so much and wants to give her everything she deserves but is afraid she is failing as a mother and ruining Kendra's life.

I am aiming to enter the film into multiple film festivals between 2024 and 2025 before it is openly available to the public, but an unlisted version on Vimeo & YouTube will be available to those who have donated $25 (Or More).
