What do you do when the adults you’re supposed to trust are the people you need to run away from? In a school where the concerns of teenage girls are easily dismissed and death is a topic too taboo to talk about, Esme and Sage must discover the truth of their best friend’s sudden and tragic suicide.

Mission Statement

Minor Inconvenience is a women written and produced project, with the aim of raising awareness for mental health and the effects of abusive power systems in school. We are raising money for our pilot episode that will go to production in June.

The Story

We’re current students at NYU Tisch, with a passion for storytelling and filmmaking. We’re shooting this pilot on a shoestring budget— only budgeting for necessities such as food, location, equipment, and transportation. Everything else will come together from the hardworking minds of our student filled cast and crew! We have a female team of creatives at the head of this project, who will bring their own unique perspectives and background to tell this sensitive story about female friendship and trauma. It’s an ambitious project but with the right support, we will be able to make a big impact with the story we’re trying to tell.

A half hour morbid dramedy that makes you question who you can trust and who’s deserving of power. Using deadpan humor to dissect the horrors that teenage girls are forced to face, Minor Inconvenience tells a story you think you’ve heard before and flips it upside down. Never dancing around a topic, but delicately exploring the roots of tragedy. Tackling the themes of grief, abuse, systems of power, friendship, and the importance of mental health. We hope to bring light to the way institutions choose to negligently treat the traumatic experiences of their students.

Inspired by our own stories of being silenced and condescended by authoritarian figures— Minor Inconvenience shows us what happens when the underdogs take back the power from greater institutions to serve their own justice. In a world where the patriarchy so often stomps on the voices of young girls and women, we aim to empower those individuals to take it upon themselves to stand up for what is right. Women can’t be cast aside simply because it’s easy to make them out to seem naive— our protagonists demand to be seen and heard in the wake of their tragedy; and if they’re denied that opportunity, they’ll create one themselves. This show handles the difficult topics of suicide, mental health, and abuse of power. We give you an honest look, without glorifying and sensationalizing the circumstance (like so many shows do). Plus, our characters respond to their misfortune like so many do— with humor!

Creating a comfortable, safe, and happy working environment for our cast and crew is extremely important to our team. We are only budgeting for absolute necessities. The creative team is working without pay, and is pulling from their own pockets when need be. However, to create a pilot at the high caliber we want to achieve, we will need to raise at least $25,000.

With this money we will be able to:

  • Rent professional film equipment for the duration of the shoot
  • Pay for food, lodging, & transportation for our wonderful cast and crew while they work for free!
  • Secure locations, props, costumes, and set design
  • Invest in comprehensive Covid-19 safety measures
  • Sustain ourselves through post-production

We will use the finished pilot of Minor Inconvenience to pitch our series to producers and production companies with the ultimate goal of partnering with a streaming service or a television network. We will also submit our projects to prestigeous fesitvals across the country.
