The Story
A Culture Lost in Translation
For a long time, I carried a quiet heartbreak. It only took a couple of years in America for me to realize that my grandparents and I no longer shared the same culture. My Spanish got worse over time, and I barely spent time with them. Before we could ever bridge that gap, they passed away. I never got to build the deep, meaningful relationship with them that I so desperately wanted.
When I had my own Quinceañera, the entire celebration felt completely foreign to me. I went through the motions, wore the dress, but I didn't truly understand the deep cultural roots beneath the ritual.

Years later, I found myself working intimately within my community as a professional Quinceañera photographer and videographer. Weekend after weekend, peering through my lens, I started witnessing the exact same tragedy unfolding in real time. I saw a widening generational divide—bright smartphone screens glued to young faces, English echoing through reception halls, and the elderly left sitting quietly in the corners, left behind.
Mis Undead Quince is the film I wish I had back then. It is a love letter to our elders, a wake-up call to the youth, and an exploration of what it means to reclaim your heritage before it’s too late.
Why Zombies?
Monsters are always a mirror.
In our film, the zombie outbreak serves as a sharp dramatic tool. It strips away the distractions of the modern world and forces two women—a disconnected teenager and her traditional grandmother—into a high-stakes arena where they have no choice but to communicate and rely on one another to survive.
But the metaphor runs deeper. The zombies represent the silent, creeping wave of total Americanization. Every single day we spend assimilating, a little piece of our original culture is consumed, moving us closer to becoming culturally hollowed-out versions of ourselves.

Furthermore, the concept plays with a fascinating cultural irony. In Mexico, death is not a taboo; we speak about it, celebrate it, and invite it in without hesitation. But zombies? Zombies are a Western fixation. Mexicans rarely care for or speak about them. By throwing a horde of the undead into a traditional Mexican setting, we get to ask a hilarious, terrifying, and completely fresh question: Que hariamos los Mexicanos si los zombies existieran? (Hint: It involves a lot more family teamwork, practical survival skills, and stubbornness than Hollywood is used to seeing).
The Vision & Visual Identity
Mis Undead Quince is a horror-thriller that balances high-intensity stakes with deeply felt familial drama. Visually, the film will juxtapose the vibrant, explosive palettes of a traditional Mexican celebration—tulle, pastel decorations, and bright floral arrangements—with the gritty, shadowed, and claustrophobic tension of a survival thriller. Pretty Horror.
We are committed to bringing this world to life through practical special effects. Expect blood, sweat, tears, and meticulously crafted undead makeup that honors the physical, tangible legacy of classic horror filmmaking. Combined with dynamic, cinematic framing, the film will feel incredibly grounded, urgent, and visually unforgettable.
In June, we tested this vision through our proof of concept video above -- A Message from Abuelita Soledad.

"Giselle is a character drawn from personal experiences growing up in America after living in Mexico for 7 years. Edgar Berumen (Associate Producer & Stunt Coordinator)

A SAG-AFTRA stunt performer out of Chicago, IL. Since childhood he has chased adreline through climbing urban structures and parkouring through the city. That, along with the love of film and entertainment, resulted in a career as a professional stunt performer.
"I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with my sister on this project. We created many films together as kids, always with teh dream that some daym we would make something special. This project not only represents our culture, but also our journey as creative and filmmakers."
Sam Brandner (Director of Photography)

Incredible cinematographer in the Northeast WI area owns his company Fifth Wall Studio creating meaningful and professional video work & GRIPP, a C-stand rack holder that every production house needs. He has traveled the world to create meaningful projects including this short in Japan.
"I wanted to be a part of a film here in Wisconsin because I believe that, while we're not in Hollywood, there are a ton of talented people who are passionate about storytelling. Helping this project come together means I can showcase the hard work and talent of so many people. Jocelyn has written a beautiful story with deep meaning. To lend my vision as the DOP to
this project means the world to me."
Alejandro Cabeza (2nd Assistant Director)

Alejandro Cabeza Velasquez is a filmmaker from Venezuela, residing in Milwaukee, WI. Currently, he works as a freelance photographer and a wedding videographer for RGZ Productions.
“I’m partnering with Jocelyne to be her 2nd Assistant Director in ‘Mis Undead Quince’.
After reading the script, I didn’t have to think twice to be on board; zombies + quinceanera, what could go wrong?”
“As a Latino, I’m proud to represent my culture in this production. Quinceaneras might be different across the community, but the sense of belonging is universal among us. We are working to display a glimpse of our roots, with some Hollywood packed action.”
Imanol Ruiz (2nd 2nd Assistant Director)

As a filmmaker and videographer with nearly six years of experience in Wisconsin, I was immediately drawn to Mis Undead Quince. Its unique premise and commitment to uplifting Hispanic voices made it a project I felt compelled to join.
"The script vividly reminds me of my own childhood, and I see my own family reflected in the characters. For me, this film is both a deeply personal endeavor and a pivotal crossroads in my career and the shared journey of all Hispanic filmmakers in the region."
Kim Reese (Production Designer)

Kim is a Midwest filmmaker who loves bringing human experiences into the big screen. From designing a coming-of-realization to directing a grotesque horror, Kim lives for it all! Elijah Kashburn (Sound Mixer)

Elijah K. Ashburn is an aspiring production sound mixer/recordist who specializes in capturing on-set audio and reminding everyone to hold for room tone. When she isn’t on set, she can be found wandering countless graveyards in hopes of understanding what lies beyond the mortal veil.
"From the premise alone, I was sold. Probably one of the most interesting projects I've ever had the opportunity to work on."
Haylie Olson (Soundtrack design & Original Music)

"I have the privilege of composing an original song and score for Mis Undead XV.
My goal is to create a faithful atmosphere that connects everyone to the world of the film so the audience can experience the richness and romance of Mexican music as I have.
Through my research I have listened to old mariachi records and attended live cumbia performances, but found much perspective browsing playlists made by young ladies dreaming of their future quinceañeras.
Knowing how the tradition is imagined by the generation growing up inside it has been priceless and inspiring. This experience will enrich future chapters of my own songwriting.
It feels special to be included on a project that is such a part of Jocelyne's heart and heritage."
Sarah Schauf (Graphics Designer)

Sarah Schauf is a graphic designer and brand strategist with 14+ years of experience. She translates creative vision into compelling visual work across print, digital and environmental media — bringing both big-picture thinking and disciplined production execution from concept through final delivery.
Her work is grounded in a deep appreciation for artisan hand-crafted trades, typography and hand-lettering, screen-printed concert posters, print media, and the juxtaposition of traditional and digital techniques — sensibilities that translate naturally into the visual storytelling demands of film. She thrives in collaborative environments where creativity and quality are held in high regard, with a track record of delivering precise, quality work in fast-paced, deadline-driven productions.
Sarah has created branding, props, signage and promotional material for one short, one feature and several advertising projects.
