Mission Statement

We are providing a lens through which to explore and empathize with a non-mainstream condition and experience you don’t hear a lot about, helping people see themselves and feel validated in ways they possibly haven’t before. This is the key to human understanding and the power of feeling seen.

The Story

Misophonia is an auditory condition in which certain sounds trigger intense emotional or physiological responses. Some might perceive these responses as unreasonable given the circumstances. Sounds can be anything along the lines of chewing, snapping gum, dripping water, or even repetitive noises like pencil tapping or pen clicking.

Those with Misophonia can respond to their trigger sounds with strong reactions ranging from annoyance to the urge to flee. Extreme cases can evoke responses of extreme panic and even immense emotional distress. And with it being so often misconstrued as a legitimate condition, those with it are left feeling at an invalidating loss, trying to explain a condition that a lot of people misunderstand.

So yeah… it’s not fun.

Providing a lens through which to explore and empathize with another person’s experience is the key to human understanding. And that is the exact power of filmmaking as a storytelling medium. With our film Misophonia, we intend to create a space where people can see themselves in these characters in ways they possibly haven’t before. We want to inspire audiences with a sense of empathy within an untapped narrative exploring a non-mainstream condition.

In the midst of dealing with a lay-off from his beloved job as a first grade teacher, and following an outburst with his misophonia (as well as the heartbreak of a recent breakup), Martin is forced to move in with his warmly chaotic and well meaning family: sister Phillis, brother-in-law Charlie, and their two kids Jake and Tonay. This story gives a whimsical, comedic, and heartfelt spin on Misophonia as we explore this condition through Martin’s journey toward ultimately finding a sense of understanding and validation for himself.

Schitt's Creek (2015)

We hold a unique position in being able to tell this story with a specific language and tone based in real and authentic individuality: Our very own writer and director, Bella Hall has Misophonia and has infused her own personal experience into this story with poignant honesty, incredible vulnerability, heartfelt truth, and whimsical characters… all bottled up into a lively, wholesome, and one-of-a-kind narrative. Bella is the perfect person to helm the telling of this important story.

Team Hall Productions

Our company Team Hall Productions has produced several comedic and impactful short films and music videos, making debuts and winning awards in film festivals around the country. Most recently, we won the Coca-Cola Refreshing Films program where we created a 60 second spot that Gracie Hall wrote and produced and Bella Hall directed and which played in theaters across the US and Canada.

With each project we dive into, we thoroughly engage with the story we’re telling with unwavering focus and meaningful intent. As independent filmmakers, taking this next step in producing our first feature is a hugely exciting undertaking… and one we are couldn't be more ready for.

The constant through-line for our brand and the mission behind our work is that we tell stories that bring joy into people’s lives while addressing themes and topics that deserve to be in wider conversations. Starting all the way back in Middle School as kids making trailers for our favorite books, we have since continued our creative partnership as a dynamic sister duo in the independent filmmaking scene. We are ready to take it to the next level.

Stories about people are worth telling. Telling stories about untapped and unrecognized experiences and subject matter is essential in cultivating a space in the creative world where people feel more seen in our collective human experience.

Schitt's Creek (2015), Sir Ian McKellen (2020), Moonrise Kingdom (2012), Paddington (2014)

Now more than ever, we need stories that bring us together with a sense of joy and empathetic understanding. We need stories that strike a balance of exploring tough subjects while infusing comedy throughout the journey because at the end of the day… laughter really is the best medicine.

Comedy has the incredible power of letting people take ownership of the things that negatively affect them. With this film, it is with excited resolve that we intend to make space for a story that lets those with Misophonia take ownership of their condition. And what better way to do so than with a humorous, tongue-in-cheek flair.

When you choose to support this film, not only are you supporting the story it embodies, you are also uplifting the entire cast and crew behind it. We have a fantastic and diverse team behind this production who are ready to get to work bringing this narrative to life on screen.

In addition, this production will be filmed under a union contract with the Interim Agreement in support of actors during the strike.

Your incredible contribution to this film is fueling a team intent on carving out more space for underrepresented leaders and voices both in front of and behind the camera. And it’s that kind of representation that we need more of. As a company and production helmed and led by female filmmakers, your support stands for and encourages the necessary and essential presence of women, LGBTQ+ and other underrepresented voices in this creative industry.

In the extraordinary event we should hit a stretch goal for our campaign, your contribution would help cover post-production expenses like color grading and sound mixing. In addition, these funds would help support us in the being able to submit our work to film festivals so our story can be shared as far and wide as possible.
