August wakes up in an isolated riverside mansion with no memory of who he is, with only Max, August's secretive husband, for company. This is a senior thesis film that examines the ever-evolving intersection of grief, addiction, and technology.

Mission Statement

This is a female lead (Director, Writer, Producer, and DP) film. The story is about a gay couple going through a period of tremendous stress. One of the two leads also struggles with addiction and mental illness. To the crew of Möbius River, inclusion and diversity are our creative core.

The Story

WHAT'S IT ABOUT?

I have always been an avid fan of sci-fi. Blade Runner, The Matrix, Gattaca: I watched my favorites over and over growing up. The best ones have always been the stories that have something to say about our own lives. They are the “black mirror” referenced in Charlie Brooker TV series of the same name. When I first wrote the script for Mobius River over a year ago, it inevitably wound up as a reflection of all my sci-fi loves.

The story is at its core about grief, addiction, and escapism. Our hero, August, has been a victim of his own mind for most of his life, struggling against addiction and desperate to evade the thoughts that frighten him most. During the film, he hurts not only himself but the person who loves him most as well.

The science-fiction elements of the film come from August’s latest weapon of self-destruction: technology. The tech he uses hasn’t been invented just yet but is based on tools already in development, specifically in Virtual Reality.

This short student film combines sci-fi and drama to tell August’s story as he pieces together the mystery of how he arrived in this odd, isolated place. Though he initially thinks Max is the one responsible for his predicament, he comes to discover that the mansion is a prison he has built for himself.

THE CHARACTERS

August (Late 20s): A tech heir with a long history of drug abuse. Paranoid and prickly, August runs from the pain of suddenly losing one of the few people he loves: his mother.

Max (Early 30s): An ambitious and keenly intelligent researcher. Max, grieving and frustrated, tries to rescue his husband from his latest bout of self-destructive behavior, while struggling with his own helpless anger.

THE PLAN

Pre-production is well underway and casting is almost complete! (Follow us for the latest updates!)

We will be filming January 24th-27th in the DC/MD/VA area. Together, we are a crew of eleven local professionals and students working together to make Mobius River a reality. Filming will be an intensive four-day shoot, including everything from water stunts to sci-fi labratories.

After post, we will be submitting Mobius River to both national and international film festivals. The premiere will be local, in the Baltimore area, but digital downloads will be available to some of our generous backers!

HI!

I am a D.C. based filmmaker currently finishing my Film and Moving Images B.S. from Stevenson University. Over the past eight years, I have worked on multiple short films, documentaries, music videos, and narrative feature films. Most recently, I worked on two Baltimore-based feature films that shot over June, July, and August. I’m excited to bring all of that experience to my directing debut film.

But I can’t do it without you! Come join our team and help us get this film made. There are some great rewards set up for our generous donors. We truly appreciate all of your support. Thank you!
