The Story
Have you ever seen a baby pigeon?
It all started when Jacque and Dave first shared pictures of the babies, a sight unfamiliar to many. The response was overwhelming, with people asking for copies of the pictures to show their loved ones. In response, Jacque and Dave decided to post the pictures on social media to keep everyone updated.
In a world where cute animal pictures dominate social media feeds, this initiative created a new set of viewers and sparked numerous inquiries, ranging from questions about the pigeon life cycle to suggestions for pigeon names. As a result, Jacque and Dave's social media feed has become a forum for discussion and information-sharing about these birds. As more people engage with Jacque and Dave's content, it is clear that their baby pigeon photos have struck a chord with viewers and opened up a new avenue for education and conversation about these fascinating creatures.
Synopsis
Pigeons are dirty, messy, chaotic birds that sh*t everywhere, and never leave you alone. Some even call them "rats with wings," so why would you ever let them nest on your balcony? Two New York filmmakers let them do just that. In offering their balcony to the parents to be, and documenting these pigeons as they started a family, they realized there were questions to be answered and more importantly a story to be told.
"Native New Yorkers" is a satirical documentary that follows the unexpected journey of Jacque, Dave, and their two cats and the unlikely bond they formed with a pair of true native New Yorkers. What initially started as a nesting nuisance, soon becomes a source of fascination for the couple as they watch the pigeons raising their young.

As the babies hatch, Jacque and Dave become almost obsessive in the care of the family. They even go to great lengths to ensure that the baby pigeons are safe and comfortable, creating their own "Bird Bed & Breakfast." The parent pigeons start out nervous and suspicious of the humans, but over time, they come to trust Jacque and Dave and even seem to enjoy their presence.

Through their experiences with the pigeon family, Jacque and Dave reflect on the absurdity of their lives and the New York City connection to pigeons. As the documentary progresses, viewers are treated to a humorous and touching story of unlikely relationships, unexpected friendships, and the power of compassion. "Native New Yorkers" is a unique and heartwarming look at the human-animal bond and the beauty that can be found in the most uncommon places.
