The Story
NEXT GENERATION SEX started with a question we couldn’t shake: what’s really behind the growing fight over sex education, and what does it say about who we are right now?

As mothers, we see the growing divide over what parents believe is “appropriate” to share with their children about sexuality and gender. And as filmmakers, we wanted to look closer. What are kids actually being taught? And what happens when they’re left to figure it out on their own?
As we began filming, we met teenagers and parents on all sides of this issue. What struck us most wasn’t just the conflict, it was how deeply everyone cared. Over three years of filming, we found people asking the same questions: How do we protect our kids? What does it mean to raise them well? And what happens when our fears don’t match the reality kids are living in today?

NEXT GENERATION SEX reveals what’s at stake when young people are left to navigate sex, identity, and safety on their own. In the absence of guidance they turn elsewhere, often facing misinformation, shame, and real risks. This film weaves together two worlds: the intimate lives of teenagers and the broader forces shaping them. We also step back to look at the bigger picture: how this moment is part of a much longer history, and how today’s media landscape is amplifying fear and division in new ways.

One of the most moving parts of this process has been reading the anonymous questions young people ask about their bodies, relationships, and identity. They’re honest, vulnerable, sometimes funny, and often heartbreaking. Through animation, we’re bringing those voices into the film, so we can hear directly what kids are wondering, and how much they’re navigating on their own.

At its core, this film is about more than sex education. It’s about how we show up for young people, what we choose to tell them, and what we leave them to figure out alone. And ultimately, it’s about how a world built on openness rather than secrecy and shame can benefit everyone.

YOUR HELP will enable us to continue while we have real momentum. We’ve finished principal photography and we are in the edit room - right now - actively working on the rough cut.
Our goal is to keep plugging away at the film all summer so we can have a rough cut completed by the Fall. We have the story, the footage, and the team - we just need the funds to make it happen!

We're seeking $30,000 to cover a month of paying our amazing editor, as well as additional post-production needs including archival footage, animation and story consultation.
If we meet the above goal, we will push forward to further support completing the film:
- $36,500 gets all of the above, PLUS two more weeks with our editor.
- $43,000 gets all of the above, PLUS another month with our editor.
- $50,000 gets all of the above, PLUS additional animation.
- $60,000 gets all of the above, PLUS color correcting and/or sound design.

Thank you for joining us and helping us complete this film and get it out in the world!
