Mission Statement

A short proof of concept for a feature film

The Story

Nicky and Nick is a proof-of-concept short for a feature film.

Nicky has had a crush on his best friend Nick since middle

school, but now that they’re in college, everything is different.

Nicky and Nick is a love story between two boys growing up together, and finding themselves through their relationship and their goals as athletes. In this short proof of concept film, we'll take you into Nicky and Nick's world through a scene from the script!

Through this film I want to ask the question: how deep is the effect of toxic masculinity? How far will they go to avoid facing hard feelings? The film is about choosing to become your own person, no matter what anyone thinks, and about the crucial time in your life when you’re faced with the choice to stay in your comfort zone or to seek bigger opportunities.

Growing up in Poughkeepsie in the Hudson Valley, I was presented with so many opportunities. I want to highlight the culture of education in my hometown. I was inspired by the Netflix documentary Last Chance U Basketball, and learning about the importance of athletics and the doors it can open to higher education made me want to tell a deeper story about relationships against the backdrop of college sports.

Where is the project right now?

At this stage, the feature film script is complete and we are ready to start our journey towards funding production. By making this short, we are hoping to open doors to investment opportunities for funding for our feature film. We will be able to begin casting, networking, and connecting with local businesses and talent to gain support from our community and begin partnerships. If our goal is surpassed, all funds will go towards production of our feature film.

Our budget will be going towards taking care of the cast and crew through rates, meals, and transportations, as well as pre-production costs such as casting. It's important to me to cast actors that know how to play basketball and understand the world.

Paying crew is extremely important to me, I want to make sure that my talented crew is fairly compensated for their time and well fed (NOT with pizza!) We plan to employ local crew and to support local small businesses for gear, locations and meals - a basketball gym being the most important location.

In a film that's all about what's not said, this project will heavily rely on acting and cinematography to tell the story. In this short, we'll focus on two drastically different locations to juxtapose the character's inner and outer conflicts.
