Mission Statement

Not a Thru Street is for dreamers who take the road less traveled despite uncertainty. Obstacles may arise, but forging ahead is our only path. We hope to inspire anyone that is afraid to take that leap of faith toward their goals.

The Story

This short film is inspired by a 6-song Alternative Hip Hop EP titled 'Not a Thru Street,' created by Cello Miles. The film serves as a dramatic adaptation of the EP's narrative.

The story revolves around a young man at crossroads in life, where his decisions hold the power to alter his path. The viewer will see different versions of Cello Miles that overlap each other. He embodies roles ranging from a cashier at a corrupt corporate chain to a displaced drug addict, a materialistic rapper enamored with wealth and women, and finally, a version of himself prioritizing family over the allure of Hollywood's vices.

We intend to show the struggles of having faith in oneself, and the different routes life can take you when you trust or don't trust in your decisions. The film will lean into surrealism to personify the internal contradictions we battle as human beings. These portrayals bring light to the everyday challenges faced by Black men and the pitfalls that accompany success. Ultimately, the narrative centers on a reconnection with family values, showing Black men finding strength in a supportive, loving nuclear family.

Your generous tax-deductible donations will help us bring this story to life by supporting our talented cast and crew. It will cover essential expenses like insurance and equipment rentals, and giving back to the community through our fiscal sponsor Black Film Space. We want to foster a community of like-minded individuals who are passionate about growth and storytelling. We are counting on you to bring it home, together we can make a difference! Thank you for being a part of this journey with us.

The storyline is a Surrealistic Dramedy within the multiverse of Cello Miles life. Similar to stories like Crash with character overlap, Atlanta with the satirical comedy, and Matrix/Everything Everywhere All at Once due to the introspective themes of the character arch.

Cello Miles here, creator of the music for the short film and lead actor. I recently was in a near-fatal car accident with my fiancé that put my life in perspective. The idea of creating this film stemmed from the minds of Isaiah Anderson (Director) and I, after I recovered from the crash. The music talks about the uncertainties of going down a road of no return or starting a journey where you can't see the end. We thought to personify those emotions and curate a film. This film means a lot to us because it's about committing to your goals, no matter what road blocks are set against you. The irony of it all is that before my car crash I released an album about driving on a road trip...so my art is literally imitating my life. People who are or were forced with the tough decision to give up on their dreams, this is for you! This is the story for anyone who can relate to having a second chance at LIFE to fight for their dream. THIS is our why!!!

Filmmaking is expensive. Like...really expensive. Two things are important: paying people properly and renting equipment.
