STORY

TABLE FOR TWO

Elise waits alone at a bustling bar, drinking opposite an empty chair. Noah, late, finally walks up to greet her.

IRL

The two grab drinks and talk about knowing each other in high school, but both clearly have changed a great deal since then. As the bar empties out for the night they decide to go for a walk.

THE HOUSE TOUR

After a brief stroll, they end up outside Elise’s apartment. She invites Noah up and gives him a tour. Ultimately they kiss outside her room.

FAREWELL

After a moment of intimacy, Noah issues an urgent confession about his inner life. Elise tries to comfort him. They say goodbye.

STYLE

Theo Webb, Production Designer:

"The production design of Noumena will seek to add depth and dimension through small details. Guided by the cinematography, the central production design work will revolve around the quality of light in the apartment through use of practical lights, painted walls and window treatments. The density of the bar and the studio will act in contrast to the spareness of the bedroom and the liminal spaces in the apartment. Emptiness will be embraced and in some spaces our intention will be to point at what is not there more than what is."

Gus Aronson, Cinematographer:

“In a film about the ‘unsaid,’ the look of Noumena emphasizes the space that the invisible, and the intangible, occupy. Through darkness, through reflection, through liminality and through time, our camera will utilize the space between truth and fiction, between understanding and misunderstanding.”

About This Team

Niall Cunningham (writer/director) is a director, writer and actor from Brooklyn, NY. His debut short “Annie” was a featured selection at IFF Boston, NoBudge, and The Capri International Film Festival, among others. He is known for his acting work in HBO's And Just Like That and CBS' Life in Pieces. Other credits include “Curb Your Enthusiasm” (HBO), “Poker Face “(Peacock), and Bong Joon Ho's “Okja”. He is a graduate of LaGuardia High School and proud Associate Artist at the Wooster Group.

Gus Aronson (Director of Photography) is a photographer and filmmaker based out of Chinatown, NY. Embracing ambiguous narrative and vivid color as tools to push against ideas of the document, Gus rejects the notion that photographs are purely evidence of a time past. He explores how photographs can rather function as tarot cards: relics of the past and roadmaps for the future. He has been commissioned by Aperture, the New York Times, New York Magazine, the Cut, and Elle, and Aperture Magazine, and was part of the Aperture Summer Open 2020 “Information” show at Fotografiska, NY. His Films, and those that he’s shot, have premiered with No Budge and the Mill Valley Film Festival. He is also a founding member and the DP for http://filmsecession.com (https://www.filmsecession.com/) an online film museum launching in 2024.

Theo Webb (Production Designer) is a production designer and filmmaker from New York. As a designer, he is interested in creating hyper-detailed and dynamic spaces, in which the sets become characters of their own. He draws inspiration from Macgyvered-contraptions found in worlds like Wallace & Gromit, Mr. Bean and the films of Jacques Tati.

Lily Cunningham-Perini (Producer) is a Brooklyn-based hybrid filmmaker, producer, and sound designer. After studying documentary film at Harvard, she dove into production sound mixing. Her work has taken her all over the world, from sets across the US, Egypt, and Chile among other places, where she has been able to hone in on her craft. In addition to narrative shorts, Lily has produced commercials and digital ads in LA and curated installations at The Art Lab in Cambridge, MA. She is currently exploring possibilities in documentary fiction and 5.1 sound design.
