Mission Statement

The Pivot! dives into the clash between creativity and conformity. This dark comedy celebrates reinvention, humorously skewers the grind of side hustles, and shines a light on artists forced to pivot—proving that passion and purpose can thrive in the most unlikely places.

The Story

LOGLINE

A New York transplant navigates a surreal office job—until chaos erupts when HR brings in a documentary crew to spotlight their “best and brightest.”

WHY SHOULD THE AUDIENCE SUPPORT THIS PROJECT?

Because it’s honest. It’s funny. And it’s healing.

The Pivot! gives voice to the people who feel like they’re failing just because they’re adapting. It challenges the illusion of productivity culture and reminds us that creativity doesn’t vanish—it just hides in cubicles, lunch breaks, and Slack messages. It’s a mirror and a release. This is for anyone who's ever dimmed their light to survive a system not built for them. Created by an all women-, BIPOC-,neurodivergent-led and queer team, The Pivot! blends humor and heart to uplift the unseen, the misfits, and the quietly radical.

MESSAGE FROM CREATOR/WRITER

Eight years ago, after closing a show, I found myself at a crossroads—like so many artists trying to stay afloat. I watched brilliant creatives navigate side gigs, survival jobs, and the tension between identity and industry. That shared experience became the seed for The Pivot!—a queer story of reinvention, resilience, and a creative spirit that refuses to dim (even under fluorescent lights). It’s a love letter to every artist who’s ever had to pivot—and proof that comedy, community, and chosen family can thrive anywhere.

- Latonia Phipps, Creator/ Co-Writer/ Lead Actor

MESSAGE FROM DIRECTOR/ CO-WRITER

As an eye witness to Latonia's formative life event, it's deceptively easy to create an accurate playground for our hilarious shared trauma. But while this is an ensemble comedy, the POV is not as straightforward. I would be remiss in bypassing the very real and insidious truth that unspoken systemic rules are at play. Through Latonia's eyes, traditional career paths, is a desolate landscape for a Afro-Latina Queer Woman. Survival means forming allies, learning from enemies and much to her character, letting go of who she thought she was."

- Emily King Brown, Director/ Co-Writer/ Actor

WHY SHOULD THIS PROJECT BE MADE?

Timely Satire of Corporate Culture: In a world still adjusting to remote work, quiet quitting, and AI disruption, The Pivot! is a timely satire that highlights the absurdity of performative workplace reform while offering real commentary about identity, survival, and the hustle of creative people stuck in non-creative spaces.

Fresh Format with Commercial Appeal: It blends mockumentary storytelling, office comedy, and fish-out-of-water character arcs—ideal for fans of shows like The OfficeInsecure, and Severance. It has both indie credibility and the potential to attract a wide, loyal audience.

Diverse Creative Voices: This project centers around creatives—many of whom are from underrepresented backgrounds—navigating spaces not built for them. It brings a necessary, layered comedic lens to class, ambition, a survival without sacrificing entertainment.

COMPS

Tone-wise, think: The uncomfortable humor of The Office, The introspective identity journeys of Insecure with a hint of the eerie, satirical undertones of Severance.

FUTURE PLANS FOR PROJECT

The Pivot! is designed to launch as a premium short-form series, with long-term goals of developing a full season for streaming platforms or networks. As we grow, we envision the show becoming more than just entertainment—it will serve as a platform for storytelling, community building, and cultural impact. The show will partner with local vendors, venues, and arts organizations to keep production dollars in the community. With its unique blend of humor, identity, and cultural commentary, The Pivot! has the potential to grow into a multi-season series. We are actively seeking distribution partners, festival opportunities, and industry champions to help bring this vision to life. This project is currently in the pre-production stage and is slated to debuted on YouTube in the Fall of 2026.

STRETCH GOAL: $14,000

Our entire budget is $14,000. We have chosen to crowd fund a portion of our budget. We need to make 80% of our goal. Therefore, it's crucial for us to raise this $11,200 by October. The entire amount will go to Cast & Crew and production so that we can finish making our series.
