When I was 18, I flew from NYC to LA to be with my mother in her final moments. The experience was shocking and I still ask myself "what if I never made it in time?" I had the resources to be there with her, but many people aren't so lucky, this film is for that majority without such resources.

The Story
We're On the Verge of follows Allison, a young woman struggling to stay afloat while working at a small bodega in the city. Isolated and overwhelmed, her situation grows darker as she receives a phone call from her brother, informing her that their mother is dying across the country. Allison is desperate to be with her mother for her final moments, but with no savings and no support system, she’s unable to afford the $500 she needs for a plane ticket.
Allison is faces with a moral dilemma: will she will steal the money from work to get home?

This story is based on my own experience. Less than a year after I moved away for college, my mother passed away. I was lucky to have had the resources to fly home and be with her in those final moments, but I know many people aren’t so fortunate. We're On the Verge of is a reflection on how financial inequality often forces people into impossible choices, forcing them to choose between their priorities and their ethics. I want this film to feel as raw and immersive as possible, pulling the audience into Allison’s world and making them feel the urgency and weight of her decisions.
To bring this story to life in a way that honors its emotional complexity, we will be shooting on 16mm film. The warmth and grain of this format will give We’re on the Verge of a visual texture that feels like an old family photograph—a reminder of the fragile and fleeting nature of time spent with loved ones.
Your support will directly contribute to compensating our talented cast and crew, feeding them on set, and ensuring we can create a safe and supportive work environment. A significant portion of the budget will also go toward the cost of 16mm film, which is integral to achieving the nostalgic, intimate atmosphere of the story.
