Mission Statement

One Last Thing seeks to portray the realities of losing friendships along with romantic relationships. We hope that our story resonates with viewers, giving them comfort in knowing others recognize their experiences, and laughter through the antics we get up to when we refuse to admit we're wrong.

The Story

One Last Thing is a heart-wrenching, laugh-out-loud coming-of-age story that follows Callie, a girl who acts first and thinks second. The unintended consequences of ghosting her ex-boyfriend catch up to her when she finds out he will also be at her best friend's birthday party, the night before she leaves for an entire semester to study abroad. Not wanting to miss her last chance to say goodbye to her friend in person, Callie decides to go undercover, rather than face her problems. Audiences will experience the tug-of-war between Callie’s resistance to lose her "main character syndrome" and the raw truths about herself that Callie must confront.

One Last Thing is a new kind of “breakup” movie. We want our short to feel like a balm that soothes our hearts by simultaneously injecting humor into a painful situation. In a world full of stories about romantic heartbreak, One Last Thing is our shot at portraying the ache we’ve all felt from losing the friends closest to us, while playing up the ridiculous nature of the drama in these tense situations.

As excited as we are to get his thing rolling, we haven’t yet begun production on the project. The teaser trailer is purely to help you see the direction we’re headed. We are well on our way through pre-production, with plans to shoot this FALL in KENT, Ohio.

We shot our pitch over the course of one evening, with a skeleton crew and our own gear. If we reach our goal of $2000, we can truly make our party a night to remember.

We've proven ourselves as an effective team in building both what's in front of and behind the camera.

One Last Thing is Stella and Olivia’s second collaboration as a Director/Producer team on a comedy project. The first, Olivia’s capstone Bunkers, was an award-winning sit-com pilot. You can watch it here.

With one comedic project under their belt, Stella and Olivia are ready to tackle a more complex and dynamic comedy, with just as many heart-touching moments as there are side-splitting ones. As both Stella's honors thesis AND capstone project, we're extra motivated to ensure the quality of the project is nothing short of outstanding.

In addition, our award-winning D.P., Cassidy DeVol, is a creative powerhouse whose involvement brings this project to the next level. Her expertise in creating stunning visuals and moving stories makes it an honor to work with her to bring our vision come to life. We are confident we are in good hands!

You can view one of Cassidy's notable projects, Gaze, here.

Behind the camera, we’re doing everything we can to ensure our set is consistent with our values of EQUALITY and SUSTAINABILITY.

Our Producer Olivia Dal Pra and our Director Stella Naymik have been a part of Kent State’s Female Filmmakers’ Initiative for several years. This organization is dedicated to promoting gender equality on set, giving opportunities to gender marginalized persons and creating a space to learn, create and succeed. We want all above-the-line roles filled by women and gender minorities, as well as the majority of the crew.

There are a million ways to create waste on a film set. A couple of chip bags here, some plastic utensils there, items shipped from across the country, fuel from travel, energy-sucking lights - the list goes on.

We want our film-making to be intentional, which is why we want to commit to doing as much as we can to lower our carbon footprint through carpooling, recycling, and being specific about what we purchase and consume.

In addition to mindful on-set practices, we are dedicated to matching 10% of all money raised with a donation to One Tree Planted, a charity that plants trees around the globe. Visit their website to learn more about their mission.

We will also be posting content about our sustainability journey, our process, and all the shenanigans we’ll be getting up to (like bagging hundreds of chips ourselves in the name of the planet) on our social media.

To fully realize our vision of creating a hilarious and poignant story with a set that upholds our values, we need some capital. If we reach our funding goal of $2000, our story will truly come to life by supporting our:

  • Set Decoration - Like throwing an absolute rager of a birthday party, holding a seance, and having a backyard concert.
  • Costumes - Callie's killer disguise and the best pair of sparkly pants money can buy.
  • Sustainability Initiatives - Help us reduce, reuse, and recycle by funding sustainable crafty, utensils, and securing an Eco-manager.
  • Location, Location, Location! - Your support will help us acquire a location big enough for the huge birthday bash, plus production insurance to keep our team covered.

If you're more of a numbers person, here is our budget breakdown by percent:

  • 35% - Crafty and Meals
  • 20% - Locations and Insurance
  • 20% - Set Decoration
  • 10% - Equipment
  • 10% - Sustainability Initiatives
  • 5% - Costumes

In addition, if you'd like to contribute but are unable to financially, you can temporarily loan us some of the items on our wish-list instead! This can include any spare birthday decorations, an empty keg, and party favors, or even equipment to help make the movie happen! And don't worry, these loaned items also count towards our goal of being green-lighted! Look at our wish-list to read more in depth about what we need and how you can help.

But that's just the beginning...

Our breakdown you see here is our jumping-off point. If we manage to raise beyond this goal, here's what would put the icing on the cake:

  • At $2500, the additional $500 will go to compensating some key crew members that are helping us make this happen for free. We appreciate their time and want to ensure they know how much their talent is valued by our team
  • At $3000, the additional $1000 will go to compensating our key crew and amazing lead talent. We want our actors to know how much we appreciate their craft and dedication to the arts!
  • At $3500, the additional $1500 dollars will go to compensating cast and crew, as well as commissioning an original score for the movie that perfectly captures the nostalgia, angst, and antics of Callie's wild night.

Finally, as with our regular goal, we will match 10% with a donation to One Tree Planted.

We hope to complete shooting for One Last Thing this fall, post-production this spring, and apply for festivals next summer.

After we've completed a festival run, we'll release the film for free online, where everyone can watch the wonderful work you've helped create!

We want our audience to feel seen by this film, and we need our audience to make it come to life! Follow us on Instagram @onelastthingfilm, share our campaign on your page, follow our campaign on here, and come along for the ride :)

Thanks for reading, and have an awesome day!
