Mission Statement

Is it better to tell someone how you feel, or keep it to yourself? In OPEN UP, Morgan faces this classic question over the course of one chaotic, awkward, anxiety-inducing kickback party. Our team is led by a group of female filmmakers passionate about telling underrepresented stories.

The Story

OPEN UP is a coming-of-age comedy short film about vulnerability and saying how you really feel. It’s got everything: late-night taco bell, arm injuries, salt rock lamps, cryptic letters, middle-aged moms in puffer vests on their way to spin class... and lots of teenage self-conscious anxiety.

When recent high school grad Morgan remembers that she drunkenly mailed her best friend Kelsey a love letter the previous night, she panics and rushes to get the letter back before her true feelings are revealed. Set at Kelsey’s house during her college-going-away party, the film follows Morgan’s frantic mission to find the letter before it gets read and gauge Kelsey’s feelings for her, all while celebrating one final farewell with her hometown friend group.

I (hi - it's Amanda for this part) wrote this script last year about the fear of vulnerability. Queer representation in media has grown so much in the past few years, but it still feels relatively small. I can count on my hands the amount of films and TV shows I love that portray the feeling of -gay panic- in a real and relatable way. This is a story I would have wanted to watch in high school, and I'm so excited that it's coming to life.

Over the weekend of September 16-18th, we finished filming with our incredible team of 25 cast and crew members. We're so incredibly proud of the result and can't wait to share the completed film with you! So why are we asking for support? Your contributions will help us cover costs of production (equipment rentals, craft services, production design) and post-production (editing, coloring, sound-designing, and musical scoring of the film). Your support will also cover film festival entry fees to increase our film's exposure and help OPEN UP reach the widest audience possible. Every single contribution matters!
