The Story
What if your savior has a secret?
The sounds of duck tape pulls and screams accompany....
a car as it barrels down a desert highway. The gloved hand of a the driver gently adjusts the radio to drown out cries in the backseat, we can only hope for clarity as the sun sets on the horizon. When the car comes to a complete stop in the cool desert night, our driver and one of our anti-heroines Ace steps out unknowingly into a rattlesnake nest, seemingly lost in the night sky. Reggie barrels out of the car, covered in blood, to confront Ace about what has happened. Amidst a fight against an unpredictable predator, we discover a heist gone wrong has left the three women to decide between danger and safety, love and worship, and ultimately discovering that death is the final consequence. With Jacky mortally wounded, Reggie is forced to play God and either trust her partner or trust nature.
Bridging the space between a western and queer psychological drama, Ophiology gives the audience a unique opportunity to explore the minds of two very different humans processing a high stakes scenario through the clouded lenses of their traumas.
"when a girl is unlikeable, a girl is a problem" Roxanne Gray, 2014

Why are we telling this story?
In this work, we meet two very different female identifying characters challenging the norm of what it means to be loving and faithful in hardship. These women are complex, wounded characters enmeshed in the comfort of their own fixations and addictions, towards life and each other. Hollywood has historically represented women as nurturing creatures, through the eyes of the male gaze. What makes this film dynamic is it’s focus on the anti-heroine. Millennial women have grown up decentralizing their focus from traditional societal roles, and young women are hungry to see themselves in a raw and real way. The reality of female relationships can be complicated, messy, and impulsive, and this film challenges you to rethink the guise of women in relationship. Though deeply loving and ambitious, these two female leads are deeply flawed, and offer a different perspective on the concept of it being better to have “loved and lost than to never love at all.”

“Superbly talented…wonderful monologues…delivered beautifully” - Stage Biz
"In Ophiology—named for the study of snakes—we enter midway into the aftermath of a bloody murder.
