This is more than a film- it's a reckoning with forgotten history. In an era where debates over what should be seen, said, and shared are intensifying, VIXENS offers essential historical context. It's not just about old movies- it's about how censorship works, who it serves, and how it's challenged.

Outlaws, Rebels, & Vixens — The Untold Story of Film Censorship in Milwaukee
What happens when a city tries to police art? Who decides what we’re allowed to see? And what do the battles over movies say about the people who watch them?
Outlaws, Rebels, & Vixens is a documentary based on the groundbreaking non-fiction book by Matthew J. Prigge. It dives deep into the bizarre, fascinating, and often outrageous history of motion picture censorship in Milwaukee—a city where films were once banned, cut to pieces, or outright condemned by moral crusaders who believed they were protecting the public.
But this story isn't just about old movies.
It's about power, control, and the fight for creative freedom. It's about how censorship shaped culture—and how artists, audiences, and activists pushed back. It’s a story that echoes today, as we still debate what should be seen, heard, or silenced.
Why This Documentary Matters
Milwaukee's history of censorship is unlike any other in the U.S.—from local "decency boards" to police raids on theaters, this is a story few know, but all should hear. Through rare archival footage, banned clips, interviews, and vivid storytelling, we’re bringing it to life on screen for the very first time.
