Ah, youth. Weird, awkward, and definitely isolating. Sound familiar? In a world where we have a plethora of choices, we all must choose ourselves, but it can feel impossible to understand what that looks like. Wouldn't it be great to have a film that shows us how to navigate that?

Mission Statement

WHY support this project? WHY are we making this thing? WHY now? With more uncertainty in our world than ever before, we face steaming pressure to survive and thrive. Our film remind us to that despite societal pressures to achieve, community is our most fundamental necessity to move forward.

The Story

Sam has never left the island of Manhattan......

A young woman lost in her own world of pragmatism, her perpetual loneliness sparks a fierce desire to garner community.

With no friends and an estranged family.. she decides there is only one way to cure her isolation -Have herself a child!

After some awful dates that get her nowhere closer to her goal, she meets Charlie, a grizzled veteran of life who convinces her that her future partner might be outside Manhattan.

On his Harley motorbike, they ride into the country.......

They arrive at his sister's house where Sam’s bubble is burst and her interactions with the natural world spark a curious realization that the reality she has created is not the one that ultimately serves her. Progress may not be rooted in having a chid just yet, but it may be in the one thing she's lacked all this time; community.

So now the big question...

We all know what it's like to feel alone; it hurts.

Our world is in unprecedented times, political uproar, economic uncertainty, technological movements.... this film reminds us that the only way to get through these things, is if we have each other. Whether you are in the pitfalls of grief, the stress of a new city, ending a relationship, or starting a company on your own, Sam's story is an example for all of us; community is the cornerstone to moving forward.

About This Team

We are four women in the arts, who are hitting the pavement and producing indie projects driven by meaningful storytelling. In Outlier we have created a satire around women being written as overtly emotional, without omitting our protagonist's humanity. We are committed to telling heartfelt stories of women who take the front seat in their life, and who choose themselves over and over.
