Mission Statement

Being alone is hard and counterintuitive to everything we have been taught. We intend to provide a new perspective on heartbreak by showing that wholeness can be found on your own and that letting go is the first step towards mending a broken heart.

The Story

Owen and Charlotte are lifelong best friends. They have visited 49 states together, and on each trip, they collect a bottle of sand to commemorate the occasion. The final state they need to go to is Oregon. But Owen harbors a dark secret: he is desperately in love with Charlotte. And Charlotte has an even bigger secret: she has just gotten engaged.

Owen’s adventure begins when he learns that Charlotte has gotten engaged. Instead of spiraling alone in his room, Owen decides to drop everything and drive to the Oregon Coast to collect the final bottle of sand in a desperate gambit to win her back.

Just a few hours into his trip, his car breaks down and he must hitchhike the rest of the way. Through these encounters he meets people whose life experiences reflect his own, teaching him how toxic holding on to someone can be, and how healing it is to let go.

The film culminates at Canon Beach where he discovers Charlotte and her fiancé waiting for him. He and Charlotte have a hard and heartfelt discussion about their present and future with waves crashing in the background.

The film ends with Owen and Charlotte parting ways. Charlotte to her life with her fiancé, and Owen to the twisted, foggy, and beautiful journey of discovering who he is without her.

Perhaps one of the most impactful movies in the lives of the writer Thomas Williams and the director Micah Heemstra is The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

A story about adventure and stepping out of your comfort zone in order to find out who you truly are. The film inspired us to go on our own real-life adventures and provides the main inspiration for Owen Gets Lost.

The works of Chloe Zhao also speak to us as they capture the beautiful journeys of Brady Blackburn in The Rider and Fern in Nomadland as they attempt to reassemble their lives after catastrophic life events, backdropped against the beautiful mid-western landscape.

We will be utilizing the natural beauty of our shooting locations to highlight and reflect Owen's internal and external journey to piece together his own life.

Other movie inspirations include Bonnie and Clyde, The Banshees of Inisherin, and Smoke Signals.

Owen: A small-town hopeless romantic. He has had a crush on his childhood best friend Charlotte since middle school but has been unable to tell her how he feels. Now that his chance with her is gone, Owen finds himself lost and unable to comprehend what his new future must be like.

Charlotte: The love of Owen's life. Earnest and free-spirited, she has always considered Owen to be the brother she never had. She has also fallen head-over-heels for Cody, her now-fiancé.

Cody: A bit of a meathead, but he has a heart of gold. He's actually pretty cool once you get to know him.

Beth and Cade: A Bonnie and Clyde duo on the run from the law. While their marriage may appear perfect on the outside, it doesn't take long to notice the deep and irreparable cracks splitting them apart. Their toxic relationship teaches Owen how damaging it can be to hold on to someone.

Tom Thompson: A washed-up, has-been, TV show personality who refuses to let go of his past career. He now resides in the forest, scheming up ways to reboot his old show. His refusal to let go of the past teaches Owen how self-destructive refusing to let go can be.

Ray: A kind-hearted husband and father who takes Owen under his wing. His wisdom and stories teach Owen how healing it can be to let go.

We need your help to get this project off the ground!

Filming Owen Gets Lost will be no easy task. This will be the most ambitious film our team has ever tackled and we are chomping at the bit to get started! However, we will have several significant expenses we will need to cover before we can make this happen.

Accommodation

Transportation

Catering

These are our big three expenses, the ones that will make or break this project.

Your contribution will allow us to worry less about HOW we can film and more about WHAT we will be filming. We intend to bring the best possible film to your screen and you can directly help us to do so!

My team and I are incredibly excited to make this film and it would mean the absolute world to us if you could help us do that. Please take a look at our many donation levels and perks and consider making a donation.

Please also consider checking out our social media pages and sharing this campaign page. Even just a word to a friend or a mention on social media can help boost this film to the stratosphere!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!
