The Story
Hi everyone! We are 1 New Chapter Films! Our team consists of senior Documentary Studies and Production students at Ithaca College! This fall, we are working on our senior thesis documentary, "Pages of Protest," which follows book bans across the United States, specifically in Texas, and how these bans harm youth, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ communities. Our documentary focuses on Da'Taeveyon Daniels, a student youth activist, as he fights against censorship and how this censorship is affecting school board, local, and national elections. As we've seen throughout history, book banning threatens our democracy and leaves students like Da'Taeveyon feeling unrepresented.
Our group members are passionate about this topic, and we hope to raise awareness. We have put so many hours and hard work into this project and will continue to do so.
We have finished filming and entered the post-production phase. During filming, we paid for everything out of our own pockets. The money we receive for the campaign will go to equipment costs, traveling expenses like gas, food, and housing while in Texas, and the film festivals to which we will be submitting our film. We plan to turn this short-form documentary into a feature-length film and to do that; we will apply it to various film festivals, including Hot Docs in Toronto, Canada.
If you are passionate about this cause and would like to contribute to our mission of storytelling and raising awareness, please consider donating. Thank you so much!
