Mission Statement

Pandorox sets out to redefine the limits and possibilities of student filmmaking. At it's core, the story is about how we are always given chances to become better, but we must do so before we realize that it is too late. An ambitious, genre-bending story years in production.

The Story

Pandorox follows a young student, Elsa, who is trife with sociopathic and oppressive tendencies as seen with her conversations with her boyfriend. Someone who one would hate when looking at themselves. However, everything changes on one fateful thunderous day when she moves into a new home, where a series causes a temporal paradox which results in Elsa encountering another version of herself.

From then on, the day becomes increasingly filled with paranoia and chaos as the paradox causes more versions of Elsa to appear. At the end of the day, Elsa must ultimately decide what her fate shall be: to choose to become a better person, or to devolve into her traits.

Think of that moment in your life where you decided that you wanted to change. Maybe it was a passing interaction with a friend or a stranger. Maybe it was when you did something in your daily life differently. For me, that moment was when I looked at myself in the mirror is a passing glance, and I decided that I wanted to become better; to be the best version of myself that I can, and I knew that if I didn't change now, then it would be too late.

Elsa as a character represents that journey. At the film's core, it is about how one can come back from the darkest of places and mindsets. Pandorox is a project that has spawned from my early developing passions for the art of film, and how visual storytelling can change people's lives. Pandorox also takes influence from the idea that stories can be about the most grandest and extraordinary of concepts, but at its core touches something personal to all of us. Making this film about someone who has to literally confront themselves to uncover their flaws has always been the basis of this film, and the ambitious storytelling and real-world scientific concepts has resulted in two years of script refining, and now is the time to help bring this dream to life.

We're raising $3000 in 60 days - that will cover location rental, food and transportation, equipment, costumes/props, and distribution. Once production wraps in early February, the next few months will be spent tinkering with the edit to ensure the highest quality.

This passon project has evolved due to a lingering feeling I had which stemmed from the idea that the kind of films we as students make now are influenced by personal and cultural backgrounds. I for one could not be more proud that their voices are being shared.

My main goal for this film was to minimize exclusivity, in that I feel like this film is an experience that everyone around the world has felt at least one, and wrapping that in a grand genre-bending layer is what I feel like why I feel in love with cinema in the first place.

About This Team

Morgan Kuo (Writer, Director), Aiden Weinstein(Producer), and Lucy Evans (Producer), are all students at the University of Texas at Austin studying for a future in film making. Through Collective Studios, Morgan Kuo's original script Pandorox was selected to be one of the organizations three main short films of the year; he is excited to work with fellow studnets Aiden Weinstein and Lucy Evans to watch this film come to life.

Morgan Kuo is currently studying Radio-Television-Film as well as Pre-Medical Sciences. His films take influence from personal backgrounds and experiences as well as larger-than life influences. His work has screened and been awarded at many national film festivals, and his latest work, Seven Days in France, is currently on its festival run. This will be Morgan's most ambitious and passionate project yet.

Aiden Weinstein is majoring in Radio-Television-Film as well as minoring in Computer Science. He's all about order of operations - running efficient processes to minimize obstacles and maximize quality. He also directs, edits, and composes his own films, but Pandorox is his biggest yet.

Lucy Evans is currently studying English and Media and Entertainment Industries. Her passion stems from creating films with abstract themes, unique artistic ideas, and like minded collaborators. After writing and directing a student short film for Mezz Fest, she found a love for producing. This will be her first major producing project, with hopes of many more to come.
