The Story
The concept of loss is tragically universal. It’s a necessary yet painful component of the human experience. As someone who has experienced a great deal of loss lately, I’m setting out to explore this concept with my next horror film PARALIAN.
In the world of Paralian, there is no black or white. Just shades of fog.
PARALIAN follows Frank, a vengeful man on the hunt for an amphibious creature of local legend.
But this isn't your typical man vs monster story.
Throughout his search through an unforgiving wilderness, Frank's retaliatory pursuit ultimately brings him face to face with a creature from the sea. Will he fulfill his need to destroy? Or let go of the hate and madness that consumes him?
On the surface, Paralian is a revenge tale examining the lengths one will go to avenge the ones they loved. But at its core, it’s more a character study on one’s dissolution of self and the journey one must take to find acceptance.
This is a story that begs a moral quandary.
This film will also serve as the proof of concept for a full-length feature currently in the works.
Your donation will help fund our film's 5 days of production beginning in January 2023 across Northern California.
We'll be following local protocols for COVID safety and providing/requiring PPE and negative tests.
Some of the funding is currently in place from the director's savings and a partnership with Moviemaker Production Services.
As you can see, a healthy portion of this budget goes towards the creature. Our goal is to create a monster as three-dimensional as our protagonist. We have two INSANELY talented SFX artists working with us to bring it to life, Josef Rarach and Vlad Taupesh. The amphibious creature in PARALIAN will be unlike anything you've seen. We couldn't be more excited.
All of this will be set against the stunning backdrop of Northern California, from coastal shipwrecks to foggy black sand beaches, to the iconic redwood forests featured in films such as RETURN OF THE JEDI and THE LOST WORLD. The atmosphere in this film is a character in itself.
But, shooting in Northern California in the winter isn’t going to be easy. We will face an onslaught of rain, fog, and cold weather. To combat this, we’re planning EVERYTHING to a tee.
