Mission Statement

As a friend, ally & advocate of the LGBTQ+ community, telling a coming out story through a lens that mixes perspectives, becomes a story for all. As a storyteller that blends genres, cultures & feelings, creating this film is a call for acceptance to our loved ones who are struggling to come out.

The Story

This short film is a coming-of-age hybrid that blends drama, dark fantasy and magical realism.

Peccadillo tells the story of Lorenzo. An 18- year-old boy struggling to come out to his religious family of female tailors, who work day and night sewing the dresses he only dreams to wear.

Unfortunately, the dream of fitting into one of these sparkly beauties and explore his sexuality lingers in the air, as through his Family’s eyes, being gay and wearing clothes opposite to someone’s sex, is a sin.

As the only man of the house, Lorenzo is expected to work, make money, and be a person of faith that the Latin community they belong to, would accept.

With a secret fantasy to explore his femininity and sexuality, Lorenzo’s current night job exposes him to feelings and desires hard to ignore and longing to come out.

As Lorenzo’s courage prepares to possibly see the light, the hopes to finally tell his grandma, takes a different turn when the woman reminds him that secrets belong to the devil and are as evil as can be. A traditional saying used in the Latin community "Los Secretos Son Del Diablo" .

Taking the saying literally, the red devil as depicted in the bible appears and follows the boy everywhere, including work.

The devil follows Lorenzo desperate for him to spill the news, but instead, the SCARED boy tries to ignore confronting the truth. As the night progresses in the Pizza Parlor where he works, the devil notices Lorenzo staring curiously across the street at a club called Club Moradito, where drag queen Raziela illuminates every person that passes by, including Lorenzo who nervously admires her beauty...so much that the devil realizes what his secret is.

After an unplanned encounter with Raziela after work, a fire inside Lorenzo sparks, causing him to make the move to finally kill his secret, along with the devil, and come out to his family.

As a highly art driven piece that mixes fantasy and reality, this film is destined to have a visual mood that's colorful and folkloric.

Through magical realism, we will let Lorenzo express his inner fantasies as well as fears. Since he has all this emotions and hidden sensations bottled up, this is where he can express himself fully and give us a little taste of who he is. A window to his mind, thoughts and imagination. In these fantasies, that sometimes will be dark, there will be shifts in lighting and glitter, but at the same time there will be blood.

*If we raise $20,000, we will be able to have extra money for unexpected expenses, which always happen in production. (Especially during COVID times)
