PHANTASMA is a mystery narrative drama centered around a woman named Ava who hears the persistent ring of a mysterious bell. Determined to uncover its unknown source, she calls out from work on a whim and embarks on a day-long introspective journey. Along the way, she encounters an array of individuals often ignored by society. Phantasma examines the cards that have been dealt to us and what we decide to do with them.
Set in post-Covid America, this poetic narrative explores the difficulty of finding a meaningful connection between oneself and a rapidly changing world, all while appreciating the beauty of life's mundane yet fleeting moments. Phantasma ultimately invites viewers to reflect on their relationship with home, community, and the pursuit of happiness.

My last successfully crowdfunded film, Hyphen (2018), was the first larger-scale film I wrote, directed, produced, and starred in for my Emerson College Master of Fine Arts thesis. The film had 21 screenings in Boston, NYC, LA, Portland, the UK, and Mexico. Friends held their own watch parties in El Salvador, Japan, South Korea, and Germany. Hyphen was nominated for 2 awards, Best Drama (Official Latino Film Festival) and Best Coming of Age Film (Oaxaca Film Festival), and won 2 awards, Best Music (Femme Filmmakers Fest) and the Starseed Award (Official Latino Film Festival). Hyphen became a symbol of celebrating individuality and inspiring others to embrace themselves. It's been 13 years as a filmmaker and multimedia artist and I still get inspired by celebrating this type of joy.

I am committed to promoting gender and racial equality in all the works I produce. In Phantasma's production, more than half of the cast and crew identify as female and people of color. It has been proven that underrepresentation and misrepresentation have negative effects on marginalized communities both behind and in front of the camera. As creators, we have the ability to shape cultural and societal perspectives. Films have the power to transform how individuals see themselves and broaden their perspectives. If I can make a positive impact in the arts, then I believe my efforts are worthwhile. My goal is to inspire more women of color to pursue writing and directing (we remain at 5.4%), and to ensure that my work and visibility contribute to a more authentic representation of underrepresented communities.

Phantasma will be submitted to numerous film festivals. Film festivals provide an avenue for these communities to see themselves represented in an authentic and significant way, which is often lacking in mainstream media. The screenings also serve as a platform for the cast, crew, and community to engage in important conversations about pertinent issues that affect all of us.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the arts have brought joy and fulfillment to many people and will continue to do so. It's important to support the arts so that lack of funding doesn't hinder the telling of great stories. Unfortunately, some communities lack the resources and support needed to achieve their artistic goals. If you found comfort in art or entertainment during these challenging times, you can help us ensure that it remains accessible to everyone. We warmly welcome any form of contribution, whether time, money, kind words, or resources. If you are not able to provide support right now, please share this message with anyone who would be interested in helping us continue our efforts. The more people who support us, the more likely we are to achieve our funding goal and bring the vision of Phantasma to life!
Thank you/gracias for your continued support!
