This series is an offbeat riff on American politics during a troubling political climate, attacking current events from a fresh angle. (Animated monster fantasy series!) It's also artistically bold and innovative, using stop-motion to get its story across.

Mission Statement

The majority of the cast and crew of Presley Dent are women. It has a female writer/director and the leading cast is entirely women. It is also a voice for women animators, a historically underrepresented group of artists. And the show's story champions equal political rights and representation!

The Story

Presley Dent follows Betty and Alison, two young jingle-writers working on a presidential campaign. Their candidate, Presley Dent, is a dangerously charismatic woman who promises to restore peaceful relations between humans and monsters in an alternative universe that has gone totally off the rails.

Betty, an idealist fresh from a rural town, has little love for her new supervisor Alison, a jaded fashionista from the big city. The feeling is mutual – but the two women team up, hoping to help Presley win the presidency.

When a staff team-building expedition goes horribly awry, Betty and Alison face political fallout from a monster attack threatening human-monster relations in this politically volatile fantasy universe. It doesn’t take Betty long to learn that the world of politics is far more venomous than she ever imagined....

Presley Dent began as a stop-motion series made with Barbie Dolls, highlighting the goofy, high-schoolish mentality I saw in politics. It was the short that helped me get into CalArts – now it's making a comeback as my MFA thesis film.

I have updated Presley Dent so that the puppets and sets will be specially constructed for the film. America's current political climate helped motivate this upgrade, but this style of animation has been my passion for years; this project will allow me to combine it with my love of making people laugh.
