Mission Statement

Project N-Terro is based on my personal experiences pieced together to make a cohesive story. Now that mental health is part of accepted conversation, I'd like to add to it by examining my own unchecked savior complex and neuro-divergence. - Traycee King

The Story

***

America has fallen from its first world status and its main export is now human. In a dystopian world of human trafficking, cannibalism, and experimentations, individuals diagnosed with ADHD have been found to have high amounts of mirror neurons. Extraction for pharmaceutical use was inevitable.

The story follows Tarra, a double-agent sent to interrogate a pedophile only to discover she must confront her own past to complete her mission. With help from her partner, Eve, and their mentor, Brimstone, they will help bring down a human trafficking ring known as the Flesh Circus.

With indie filmmaking dwindling in the shadows of corporate films, only you can help keep unique stories alive. The uncertainty of our nation's future is a fear many of us have and there are so many "what-ifs" that can be turned into stories. With this new arena, I'd like to add my voice among the many great horror conversations being had.

While we are telling a story that's technically in the cyberpunk world, it will not be as vibrant. This dystopia is more akin to Bladerunner. The story itself can be best described as The Cell meets Jacobs Ladder, and those are the tones that will be more focused on as it will enhance the grittiness of the story.

Body/political horror is relevant in todays social atmosphere. These are the undertones that frighten me - the few who control the masses. Who watches the Watchmen? How do we keep each other accountable without the serpent eating itself (so-to-speak)? Asking these types of questions helped me hone in on the tone and atmosphere needed to enhance the overall feel of the short film.

Based on how much we are able to raise, we can deliver the best experience we are capable of.

Project N-Terro immediately captivated me as a filmmaker because it is more than just a Sci-fi Noir—it’s a fearless exploration of our future shaped by the shadows of our present. This film dives headfirst into issues society often turns away from, including one of the most taboo topics: child abuse and trafficking. By exposing the horrors of this atrocity, the film confronts the alarming ways it is overlooked, ignored, or even subtly normalized in our culture.

Through its dark, futuristic lens, Project N-Terro compels viewers to grapple with uncomfortable truths, forcing us to question not only how these evils persist but also our collective complicity in allowing them to thrive. My goal is to create a gripping and visually striking sory that doesn’t just entertain but ignites vital conversations about accountability, morality, and the kind of future we’re shaping. -Monique Efta

About This Team

Monique Efta

Director

Monique Efta is a born storyteller. Her upbringing in the Midwest left her with nothing much except Minnesota sushi (if you know, you know) and a wild imagination. Her early days in the church took her around the world; but a deep curiosity about how to capture what she saw led her away from her Midwest ministry ties and straight to Hollywood!

She’s worked on a multitude of independent TV and film productions, including ‘Sin Raices,’ directed by Gabriella Moses which premiered at LALIFF and Miami Film Festival. She recently worked as the director of client relations at the budding and heavy-hitting Hollywood startup “AudPop”.

Her goal is to create films that defy societal pressures of what should be and create an equitable space for underrepresented voices to be heard. She helms and produces independent productions for bold stories by passionate filmmakers.

Traycee King

Writer / Producer / Actress

Traycee was introduced to horror films by her father when she was five years old. She didn't take to them at first because she thought they were boring and would rather be outside climbing trees. She vividly remembers her brother calling her a "chicken" while her father had a much gentler approach. He explained that horror was make-believe and no one really got hurt. HBO became one of her closest friends and movies in general became a way of life.

While growing up, she discovered that she wanted to be an actress, but after high school, she didn’t have a solid plan. Her then boyfriend suggested that she join the Air Force just to get out of their small town. It was that experience that forced her out of her shell and taught her to be self-reliant, confident, and aware.

Her dreams of being an actress finally materialized when she was discharged from the military, however, due to 9/11 she was reactivated and her plans were put on hold. Her father (a Navy veteran) cried and said that he wanted to come out of retirement to take her place. Traycee explained to him that he had done enough and it was her turn to protect him. After serving eight years, she was medically discharged on honorable terms.

Traycee booked a few acting gigs here and there but was greedy for work. While playing the waiting game, she found that her peers were creating their own content online during the early stages of New Media. Curious, she searched for horror online but at the time, that genre was nowhere to be found. It was then that she decided to stop waiting, make her own projects, and create work for herself. It was through this process that she found out how much she loved filmmaking.

Throughout this journey, she snagged filmmaking gigs with Lionsgate, Legendary, and Nerdist, to name a few. Though filmmaking is a passion, acting will always be her first love.
