UPDATE: PAUSED FOR
NEW ZEALAND COVID-19 LOCKDOWN
Thank you to everyone who has supported this project either by following it, or telling your friends, or coming on board to help us get it made!
"Proof" short film is now FULLY FUNDED!
So, what's next?? We are very excited to be wrapping up our final stages of pre-production while waiting out the rest of lockdown here in New Zealand.
Unfortunately, with the lockdown your physical perks (drawings, photos, autographs) are slightly delayed. As well, New Zealand mail is currently stopped to the United States so we are working out how to best get everything shipped as fast as we can!
We have a very determined team and in spite of a few changes to help us keep going and working within available parameters, we are still continuing and will hopefully be on set next month!
Be sure to follow this page for regular updates!
************
Determined to find evidence of an afterlife, an old man goes too far. After all, extraordinary belief requires extraordinary Proof.
Proof is a tense slice-of-life that takes the audience to a difficult place, yet ends wonderfully and optimistically. As a short film, Proof aims to challenge our perceptions of humanity.
It's time to show the world Proof.
We want to connect with you to bring New Zealand stories to the world.
Big studios have a lot of control as to what stories get told. We want to break past that and bring New Zealand stories to international screens. We created this Seed&Spark to connect with you, our supporters for this story and many more projects to come! Our purpose is to begin with Proof, and then grow together and develop real, raw films that touch the heart and open the mind through screens around the world.
Proof is our first of many. Come join us on this adventure!
Our Plan
We are 2 companies collaborating internationally to bring this story to life. To maintain COVID-19 safety for our production will be executing on location in New Zealand by a crack team of Kiwi filmmakers. We will work with artists of all genders, origins, and voices so each can learn from one other. We look forward to introducing them to you as we go!
How Can You Help
Check out the perks we are offering and pick the level you'd like in supporting this film and bringing it to life! Autographed print of Deacon the Vampire? It's yours! Filmmaking master class with Jonny and Koura? We can do that! How about deep-diving into a super bonus package, or go big time and get your name on IMDb as an Executive Producer? Please do! Following the film's completion, how about receiving an early access screening link to Proof with Director's Commentary? You better believe it! Take your pick and take home a digital badge of support to display across the interwebs. You can also support this project simply by following us here on Seed&Spark and sharing this page with your friends!
Note: The Incentive prices are listed in $US only.
Production Design
Ever notice that film characters are always hot and sexy, even vampires? The real world isn't like that. The story of Proof explores and expands on the concept of reality. The world is full of all types of people struggling for stability and dealing with secrets, the most compelling characters flawed and on the edge.
Themes
While the idea of holding faith is commonly tied to religion, this story is simply about basic human needs.
While leaning into our genre as an optimistic psychological thriller, this film is like a torchlight in the dark: What happens when we die? What is there in life that prepares us for death?
This story also explores fear: What are we scared of? Our judgments of others point to something deeper. Fear is more powerful than we believe as we try to understand ourselves.
Whats next?
One of the great things about running a crowdfunding campaign is knowing together there are no limits. Any funds over our goal will go straight into the next project!
We look forward to bringing you:
Goth To A Flame
(feature film // musical tragic comedy)
'Clown Of Thornz' sees the writing on the wall! Goth is dead!
Artistic integrity is bad for the career! Should he fade away or go out with a bang?
and
Lambing Season
(drama/comedy short film)
On a 1930s New Zealand high country farm,
a winter blizzard forces Julia to make a questionable decision.
Producers
Our writer and director, Jonny Brugh, has won multiple awards in his 27 years as a live comic and screen actor/writer/producer. His company Hiemlich Maneuvre looks to move forward bravely, exploring humanity's flaws and needs and reflecting them for us with innovation, deception and mystery.
To carry us through production and into the festival circuit we're joining with Koura Linda and her highly accolated US-based company Space Dream Productions.
Since September 2016, over 60 projects have moved (or are moving) through Space Dream Productions. 21 completed projects have received over 50 film festival acceptances internationally, received neary 70 award nominations and won 24 awards, including the Vietnam War action drama Names on the Wall (produced and directed by Koura Linda,) available now on Amazon Prime Video.

About This Team
JONNY BRUGH
Actor, comedian, writer, artist, and producer Jonny Brugh is best know as Deacon the Bad Boy from Kiwi cult film What We Do In Shadows, and as Monty McNamara on Australian comedy drama 800 Words. Over his 27 years in the industry Jonny has worked on many comedy series and films including Mega Time Squad, Soulmates, Uncle Bertie's Botanarium, True Stories From The Water Cooler, Soul Mates, and The Moth Effect.
This year, Jonny found himself face to face with actor Christian Bale on a "secret project". For contractual reasons, Jonny calls this gig: Deacon Throws Half-Eaten Fruit at Batman.
Jonny has stuffed numerous awards under his belt since his heady early days in innovative absurdist comic duet Sugar and Spice, including The Billy T Award and The Chapman Tripp Award for Best Comic Performance. He has a 48 Hour Film Project Award for Best Film and a Moonlighting Film Contest Award for both Best Film and Best Actor. His short film Beautiful won Best Film at the Moa's in 2000.
2005 saw Jonny team up with Jackie van Beek to create the internationally acclaimed live show My Brother And I Are Pornstars and multi-award winning short film The Gondola. In 2015 they produced thier live show FlashDunce, which developed into the hit New Zealand TV series Educators.
2020's COVID-19 lockdown saw Jonny set up his film company Hiemlich Maneuvre to develop new comic concepts. In 2022 look out for Clown Of Thornz: Goth 2 A Flame, a modern-man-alone tragedy, Proof, a super natural drama and the historical comedy Lambing Season.
Jonny is a Taurus, born in the year of the dog, and enjoys sleeping and marauding the New Zealand coastline in his Penguin ocean kayak.
KOURA LINDA
Koura Linda is the Founder and President of Space Dream Productions, an independent film and music production company with a focus on creating true to the world of independent art.
Notorious for her elaborate crepe-paper birthday party decorations and painting murals on the walls of her bedroom, she started writing out character development and script ideas and shot lists in her composition notebooks as a kid and was working as an art teacher's assistant as soon as she could legally hold a job.
Fast forward about a decade, after stumbling in with an art deptartment crew one summer, she quickly fell in love with production design and spent the next 10 years working on set and event design, eventually getting into full production design.
Knowing that production design entails more than just the set, Koura studied acting and writing and camera and lighting, working as a day-player where she could, eventually taking a 3-day rigging intensive to become a certified set rigger and later working with electric, rigging lights on concert stages across LA.
When she wasn't 50 feet in the air on a truss rig she'd helped build, she was studying design and make-up and wardrobe, eventually moving up to Art Director and then Production Designer then Event Producer for large private events, soon followed by work in various music videos, TV shows, and films.
With such a strong background and familiarity across so many departments with hands-on experience, it was a small jump over to producing and directing.
Since September 2016, over 60 projects have moved (or are moving) through her company. 21 completed projects have received over 50 film festival acceptances internationally, received just under 70 award nominations and have won 24 awards, including Best Animation, Best Drama: Short, Best Short, and Best Picture. Both Koura and her partner and husband, Spaceship, have been awarded Best Director for 3 different films.
She has been recognized as a contributing artist to two Emmy Award wining projects through her work for Joseph Gordon-Levitt's open collaborative production platform, hitRECord. In August 2019, Koura was also awarded the Mico Award in Las Vegas for Innovation, Courage, and Excellence in her career thus far as an independent filmmaker.
Space Dream Productions' short film Tidings won the 2020 Miami 48 Hour Film Project and earned a slot at Filmapalooza 2021.
In addition to work across various projects, including her podcast Filmmaking (Actually), Koura is currently in post production on her feature film, the upcoming optimistic drama, Catching The Light.
