The Story
Ram's Head is a film dedicated to the working musician, showcasing the struggles, realities, and sacrifices needed just to do what they love the most.
A new father has to sacrifice his instrument collection to make ends meet for his family while figuring out how to hold on to his dreams. Ram's Head is about making the hard call between what you want and what you need in life. As life goes on and necessities devour one's personal time your hobbies and dreams have to take a backseat. Or do they? Is what matters in life what you want the most, or what you want for the ones you love the most? Within Ram's Head each of these themes of sacrifice, love, responsibility, dreams, and destiny are explored. Fantasy meets maturity within heightened reality. The stylistic and tonal balance of Ram's Head has been seen as akin to Brazil meets Once.
There is a cliched story about a man who gets in a band to get with girls, then years later the girl he gets with from the band has him pawn his guitars. The life of a musician is hard and has no guarantees or set path towards success, and some of Ram's Head is ripped from the pages of my own life but also vicarious experiences of those I've seen from the inside of the music business. I've been around successful and self-supporting musicians for as long as I can remember, and I think they all know that it is but for the grace of providence that they have their station, where others noodle in the den with only a dream to carry them.
Meet The Creator
My name is Casey Lee Ball, I'm the writer-director of Ram's Head. I've been playing guitar for my entire life and was born into a family whose destiny is inextricably linked to the guitar. From the business and manufacturing side to recording, touring, and gigging everyone in my family has had a connection to the instrument. My life's path is equally tied to music and the guitar. I had to come to my own accord and film is how I must express my connection.
Meet The Cast
Daniel Rodriguez as Steve.
Steve is a lifelong guitarist who has had many bands and projects in the past, and has accrued a world-class collection of instruments, pedals, amps, all the things guitarists can't live without. But like many people today he's financially behind the 8-ball, and with debt and bills stacking up he has to steel himself to make the hard call on what he has to get rid of to provide for his family.
Casey Ball as Gus
Gus is Steve's long-time friend and former band mate who now runs a music store/pawn shop, where Steve goes to hopefully get the homie hookup on his prized gear.
Marie Black as Leilani
Leilani is Steve's wife and the mother of their children, she's been with Steve since the beginning and through all of his ups and downs and has always given him the support he needs to carry on. However, unlike Steve who frequently checks out into his own head, Leilani has her feet on the ground and steers the ship to carry the whole family safely along. All the while, she has a spontaneous and kooky streak that brightens the room.
Stretch Goals
Our goal of $5,850 is the minimum requirement to see Ram's Head through post-production, pay for the cost of equipment rental, and go towards paying the cast and crew for their hard work.
If we raise $6,500, we will be able to afford more polished visual effects, enhance the production value, and cover the cost of licensing more effective editing software.
If we raise $7,500, we will be able to broaden the scope of our festival submissions in order to get the film in front of a wider audience, and pay the cast and crew an enhanced day rate to match comparable industry scale.
If we raise $10,000, we will be able to afford a significantly enhanced distribution and promotion package in order to get Ram's Head on a widely accessible service.

About This Team
In order to make this dream a reality I was able to use the very best of the award-winning Phase 3 Films talent roster.
Paul Black - Director of Photography. Paul is a multi-decade veteran in multiple arenas of camerawork ranging from cinema production, documentary, television, and shorts. His rigorous framing and lighting bring an unparalleled sheen of professionalism and inspiration to everything he shoots.
Cindy Lee Ball - Producer, Editor, Assistant Director. The lovely Cindy keeps the trains running on time, wrangles locations, and arranges call sheets and shoot dates while juggling our toddler twins.
Samantha Morales - Producer. Sam is one of the people that holds all of Phase 3 Films together, tirelessly producing shoot after shoot and assisting with polishing scripts, and holding down her own acting career.
Alika Wright - Script Supervisor & Co-Producer. Alika is a dedicated professional, a hardworking family man, and US Army veteran, and an essential part of the team who helped to initially get Ram's Head off the ground.
Miguel Alvarez - Sound Supervisor. Miguel has operated sound on over 30 short and feature length films. Not to be outdone, Miguel also stars, writes, and directs in his own projects and is frequently tapped for his on-screen presence.
Daniel Rodriguez - "Steve" Leading Actor. Daniel is an accomplished writer, director, and actor who also has the humility and gumption to have served in every capacity of film making from gripping all the way up. Steve is the guitar player caught between his desires and the harsh reality of having to provide for his family.
Marie Perry - "Leilani" Leading Actress. Marie's intense depth and soulful demeanor imbues an unprecedented amount of life to Steve's better half, Leilani. Marie is also a writer and connoisseur of horror with her own project coming up. Ram's Head is Marie's acting debut.
