Recall isn’t just sci-fi. It’s personal. A paralyzed vet sends signals to space, hoping to be fixed. But what he finds is deeper: he was never broken. I’m telling this story with real emotion and disability representation. With your help, we can send the message: You’re not broken.

Mission Statement

I’m telling"Recall" because I’ve lived it. As a spinal cord injury survivor, I know what it means to search for wholeness. This story uses sci-fi to reflect something universal — the need to be seen. We’re making it now because people deserve to know they’re not broken.

The Story

THE STORY

Recall is a grounded sci-fi short about a paralyzed veteran who sends signals into space, hoping something will answer — and maybe fix him. But what he receives isn’t what he expected. It’s not a cure. It’s a message:

You were never broken.

This story explores healing, identity, memory, and self-worth — all through a cinematic sci-fi lens.

It’s emotional. It’s visual. And it’s deeply personal.

WHY NOW

I’m telling this story now because the world is full of noise — and a lot of it tells us we’re not enough.

As someone who’s survived a life-changing injury, I’ve lived that. But I also know healing doesn’t always look like what we expect.

This is the moment to tell a story about inner transformation — not just outer change. A story that says: you are already enough.

WHY ME

I’m Jamie Nieto — the writer, producer, and lead actor of Recall. I’m also a two-time Olympian and a spinal cord injury survivor.

This story is born from my own experience — the frustration, the isolation, and ultimately, the realization that being seen is more powerful than being fixed. I’ve lived the journey I’m putting on screen.

WHERE WE ARE NOW

We’ve got:

   •   A locked script

   •   Director Kent Faulcon (DC's Naomi, House of Payne, Selma) on board

   •   A full production team

   •   Cast and locations selected

   •   Shooting set for August 23rd, 2025

This campaign is to help us get to that day with the gear, insurance, food, and materials we need to film safely and professionally.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

After we wrap production, we’ll head into post (editing, sound design, music, color, VFX) and then submit the finished film to festivals that champion short films, disability narratives, and sci-fi.

Festivals on our radar include: Slamdance, Tribeca, Pan African Film Fest, ReelAbilities, HollyShorts, and more.

We’ll also explore digital distribution and screenings via Seed&Spark’s partner Kinema to get the film seen and discussed by wider audiences.
