Mission Statement

With the Remnant project, we have found that working with a talented team from a wide array of cultural backgrounds has helped inform our craft in ways we never thought possible. We are adamant about ensuring representation on both sides of the camera and encouraging sustainable eco-practices.

The Story

SYNOPSIS

In a future where vast ecosystems and infrastructure have been devastated by the aftermath of severe climate change and pollution, two field biologists are dispatched to conduct tests regarding environmental rehabilitation near a restricted area. On the way to their destination, the two take a short detour and happen upon an abandoned outpost with undocumented research. Issues arise when they must decide what to do with their findings.

ORIGINS

The story of Remnant was originally conceived by Christophe briefly before the first rays of summer 2019 sunshine, as important discussions on climate change were finally reemerging in the public sphere. Natural landscapes and films concerning themselves with exploring our relationship with the environment and how human morality can affect it have informed much of the stylistic and thematic aspects of the story.

Christophe and co-writer Nathan Blue worked on developing the idea further, completing a draft of the script in fall. Upon completion, Christophe found a collaborator in cinematographer Rocco Salerno, and the two agreed to work together on a shared vision for the story. Throughout the pre-production stages of this project, the crew have continued to support this project and have each brought a unique contribution to the film.

CELLULOID APPROACH

We are extremely excited and grateful to be sponsored by Kodak Motion Picture Film for this project. This film's rich dimensionality in both its characters and its setting has led us to believe that the texture of 35mm film would be most appropriate in accurately reflecting the world of the story, and this would not be possible without their help.

Because of the decision to shoot on 35mm film, we will be addressing aspects of production and post-production that are specifically dedicated to sustaining the workflow of shooting on celluloid throughout the project. We believe that shooting on film is far from ever being dead, and hope that our project can join the new resurgence of the medium.

BUDGET AND IMPACT

This is a story told by a group of striving young artists that are determined to showcase their craft and passion for storytelling. Your contributions will ensure our continued hard work and effort to tell this story as best as we can, and we cannot wait to share new updates and details as the project moves forward!

It means the world to us and our team that you believe in this project enough to help it come true. Thank you!!
