There are so many stories about rising to the top in your profession, but not as many about what happens after you achieve your dream or you can no longer do the thing you love. This project is also spearheaded by an up and coming female writer, director and female led production team.

Mission Statement

Our film will take the audience on the physical and emotional journey of a woman in a transformational point in her life. We aim to inspire others with a story of courage, perseverance and personal growth while exploring what it means to be an artist.

The Story

A ballerina at the peak of her career struggles to find a path forward when she is fired from her ballet company. Reverence is a poignant, character driven, drama/comedy short film about creative longevity, career redirection, and artistic identity. How do the ashes of what you've let burn fertilize the next plant that you're growing?

Ballet is all Elise has ever known. She has always relied on it, been sustained by it, and lived her life to the rhythm of its beating. She has never had a “regular” job. She never went to college. But just as she is approaching the climax of her journey as a dancer, where all of her hard work and experience prepare to coalesce in a masterful final act... it all gets taken away.

What made you a dancer could’ve made you anything,

but you chose dance in this lifetime and for this moment.

Who knows what else that energy will create...

This project is so proud to be supporting two amazing female artists to spread their wings and take the next step in their creative journeys.

For our writer & director Simone Lewis, her life in musical theater led her to acting in film & television, which in turn helped her to discover her passion for writing. She wrote and starred in her own short film "Smoke Break" in 2021, and has now set her sights on directing with this next project.

For our lead actress Anais Blake, it was dance that lead her to acting. In 2021, she started creating comedy sketches with friends under the moniker "No, you hang up first", and now she has her sight set on producing her first short-film.

Reverence will be filmed in a grounded style, using and augmenting natural light, using film emulations and vintage lenses to give the image an organic feel.

The camera will operate as an extension of Elise. When she dances, it dances with her. When she is still it is still. When she is cold and distant, the camera makes room, and when she is vulnerable, the camera draws close.

Right now, we are in the pre-production phase of our film. We're scout our locations, dialing in our casting and refining our shot-list.

Révérence will be shot over the course of three days in early March. After that, it's off to the races with post-production, and finally (drumroll) FESTIVAL SUBMISSIONS!

If we reach our funding goals then there are a few more items that would make amazing additions for stretch goals.

  • $1500 to hire a professional hair and makeup artist for all three shoot days
  • $900 to hire an assistant director to help keep track of our shotlist and keep us on scheduele
  • $2000 to cover the cost of professional sound mixing and color grading in post-production

About This Team

SIMONE LEWIS

Simone Lewis is an emerging filmmaker, who wrote, produced, and starred in her first short film, "Smoke Break," in 2021, and now makes her directorial debut with Réverénce. She hopes to tell the stories of creative women who persevere with gumption, empathy, tenacity, and humor against all odds.

“My vision for this project reflects my belief that committing to a life as an artist requires immense courage and introspection and that those who choose the path of an artist are never done evolving.”

ANAÏS BLAKE

Anaïs began dancing at the age of three and joined a ballet company right after high school. For a decade , she devoted herself entirely to her career as a professional ballerina, but when she was offered a role in a Broadway show, she bravely left her world she knew behind, and uncovered a profound sense of artistic fulfillment in acting. Now, she captures her art through the character and story, treating lines as choreography, realizing that the passion and talent were already a part of her.

AARON FITZGERALD

Aaron is a well-rounded filmmaker with over a decade of experience producing everything from short films and music videos, to commercials and documentaries.
