The Story
To me, Rocky Jones is a story that is applicable to everyone, a story of hope, inspiration, and doing what’s best for oneself.
Rocky Jones is a musician who is unhappy with his life and the direction that it’s going in. As humans, I think that is something we can all relate to. For those times in our lives we are unhappy with the situations we are put in, feeling helpless to distance ourselves from the toxicity. When people watch Rocky Jones I want to share hope, inspiration, and understanding that it is possible to get out of these positions no matter how difficult it may seem.
To give character to the script, we as a production have decided to set the story in modern times with a 1950’s feel to the environment. The 50’s has such an iconic look to it that I want to bring to this film to give it life. As a musician I think that music in one of the most inclusive and beautiful art forms out there, so we decided to have jazz undertones in the film to add another layer of beauty and hope to the setting. Creating a unique mise en scene to captivate the audience and draw into this world we are building together.
I have been very fortunate to not have ever been in an abusive relationship or domestic violence situation. I wish I could say the same for everyone. The main theme of this film is to talk about all forms of abuse in all types of relationships e.g. women, men, gay, straight, of all ethnicities. Too many of our peers, friends, and coworkers are in these situations and media often turns a blind eye to abuse. Nearly half of all women and men in the United States have experienced psychological aggression by an intimate partner in their lifetime. That is something we need to actively talk about and help those people. My goal with this film is to bring hope, inspiration, and courage to people who feel helpless in their lives.
