After a morning skate sesh along Chicago’s Lake Shore Trail, two besties (Linnie & Zay) find themselves stranded after losing their car keys. They must journey up the trail to save their pet cat, learn the power of friendship, meet a ton of cool people in their community; all while on eight wheels?!

Mission Statement

This project uses comedy to express the excitement and fear of a new hobby like roller skating and explore the joys and challenges of imperfect friendships. We want this project to be entertaining but also give respect to the established Chicago roller skating community that inspired this film.

The Story

A chaotic pair of bimbo besties lose their keys and are forced to make the journey home to save their cat, all while on roller skates.

Have you ever wondered what the poor Midwest version of Paris Hilton would look like roller skating? Well, we have two; and, it's their fourth time on wheels. Born from the pandemic comes Roller Babiez, Linnie & Zay! After an early morning skate sesh along Chicago's Lakeshore Trail, the Girlies find themselves in a pickle after losing their car keys. Follow them as they save their pet cat, learn the power of friendship, and meet a ton of cool people in their community; all while on eight wheels!

During COVID, we all saw a new wave of skating. We were no exceptions; we fell in love with the sport. When winter (in Chicago) came we had to move indoors, making a trek an hour away to the nearest rink, Fleetwood Roller Rink. Discovering and humbled by the already-established skate community, the love and commitment they had for their community inspired us to work harder at our craft. In this project, we want to express the excitement and fear of exploring a new art form and discovering a new-found passion. We chose to set the piece outside of the rink so as to not disrespect the community we are only spectators. Skating is still only our hobby, and we choose to write a story about our experience of discovering something new and intimidating that gave us so much joy.

Love,

Learning something new as an adult is hard and even scary! But the Roller Babiez are here to tell you to not ever take yourself too seriously because we don't! We think everyone can use more humor. More silliness and imagination. The Roller Babiez team is presenting this story now to give audiences a good time and show some beautiful Chicago Style skating. But don't be fooled, no good skating will be coming from our main characters. These girls can barely stand on skates, y'all!

Allegedly psychic supermodel Linnie skates across cyberspace. She works as a digital medium, reading everyone's fortunes from an incel to a different incel somewhere else. Linnie is a confident hard-working b who can't lie and isn't really good at confrontation.

Meet ZAY! A jaded slut who takes out her frustrations on the small children to whom she teaches clown basics. Zay famously has never passed the Bechdel Test. This Diva can't remember her boyfriend's name, but she still loves him. A true walking circus act, this girl can't shake her debilitating envy of others.

A literal gift from God popsy-whoopsy, fluffy-wuffy, silly-billy, sicky-wicky kitty cat. (we love him so much he is so sick from surgery)

The world you see (beyond our gorg Lake Shore Drive) is a world where two ridiculous characters take on an adventure unlike any other. With inspiration from Paris & Nicole, Romy & Michele, Barbie, and Sailor Moon - you'll see characters who are doing things way out of their league but finding their own unique way to succeed. Using animation as a reference has enabled us to think outside of the box and incorporate some magical realism into the movie that only Linnie and Zey could imagine. Trust us, entering this world will keep you laughing and asking "How (and/or WHY)?".

We want to pay our cast and crew what they deserve (or more)! We plan to shoot Mid-July with a small, skeleton crew to keep us mobile and on our skates. But most importantly, we will be prioritizing compensating the experienced skaters that have agreed to participate in our feature film as extras.

Then there are the logistics. We plan to shoot with the beautiful backdrop of Chicago's Lake Shore trail and that means... permits. And permits cost money. We're working with people and... people eat! We need to feed our cast and crew. And of course, we need to rent quality equipment that will help achieve our vision.

Sharing the project with your network of people is an amazing way to support this film! Send it to your 20 besties or just your mom! Helping us spread the word gives us more reach and more opportunities!

We are desperate girlies! Let us know if there is anything else you'd like to contribute! Do you own or have a connection to a restaurant that could provide meal catering? Maybe even a food truck? Do you love to skate and want to be an extra? Or maybe you have never skated before but are open to being the person falling in the background? We’d love to work with you! If this is you or you think you have even MORE to offer, email us at [email protected].
