The Story

SAINT VEGAS is set in present-day LAS VEGAS in an UNDERGROUND CASINO BAR. It follows a young woman, ANASTASIA, as she navigates life after the loss of her mother. Running away from her feelings back home, she adopts a new life as a non-sexual escort where she is known as ‘Saint Vegas’.

Top Left to Right: Molly's Game (2017), Casino Royale (2006), Wonder Woman Woman 1984 (2020)

'No Touching Except Deep Into Your Heart and Soul' is what Saint Vegas provides; a spiritual guide with a risqué flair. On one particular night, she meets a client, CARMEN, who forces her to face all of her unmet feelings.
DUALITY

ANASTASIA'S PUBLIC SIDE:
Gregarious, Gracious, and Feigning Everything is Okay with a Smile

Skyfall (2012)
Our location for our UNDERGROUND CASINO BAR will be shot at the Filipino-owned space, LOT 45 in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
ANASTASIA'S PRIVATE SIDE:
Isolated, Numb and Avoiding All of Her Feelings

The Town (2010)

Towards the end of the film, we see these two sides merge as Anastasia decides to journey back home to confront all she has left behind.

This film is also a love letter to oneself. It’s about losing and finding yourself. It’s about trusting the unknown. It’s about how we care for ourselves in the times we need it most and seeing where our gut takes us when we listen to it. Sometimes to the most unimaginable places…
WHY THIS FILM NOW?
This story germinated from two core memories: The fear of one day losing my mom and my own mental health journey with battling depression. Living in a world where there is no handbook on how to take care of oneself, I wanted to explore the deep healing that takes place between The Self and other strangers passing through life with a compassionate lens. While this film is fictitious, it takes roots from a very real place. I’m not alone in struggling with mental health issues and I want to further normalize the conversation. It’s not a surprise that LGBTQIA+ Youth (18-29) experience higher rates of anxiety and depression.

The Fosters (Season 5, Episode 15)
Stef (Teri Polo) experiences a panic attack. In this tender moment, her mother (Annie Potts), calms her down.
I was deeply inspired by Teri Polo’s performance in The Fosters as she experiences a full blown panic attack. I wanted to pay homage to the vulnerable and raw moments in life and put them onscreen. With SAINT VEGAS, this happens when the main character's inner life is finally unleashed during her encounter with a client. I hope these precious moments can be a point of transformation, growth and deep discovery.

In addition to these themes, this story is an homage to the coming-of-age films I’ve watched in my youth.
My hope is that SAINT VEGAS like its name, can be a spiritual guide of sorts. As Anastasia navigates life, she figures out how to care of herself in times she needs it most and builds trust with herself and the world around her. All the characters in this story are bound by their connection to their struggle with identity and desire to find a home within themselves.

ELLIN ALDANA I Cinematographer
Being Guatemalan-American is a big part of my story. I grew up literally in the jungle and very much secluded until I came to the states. My personal interest in film stems from a place of observation, color theory, and emotionality. I started off as a photographer and archivist but I completely changed my career and became a cinematographer after discovering filmmaking. I love narrative work that lends itself to building worlds and distinct looks based on the characters and their story. My accolades include receiving my MFA in cinematography at The American Film Institute. In 2023, I was an Altitude Award Winner and won the Emerging Filmmaker Award for my cinematography. I am also a member of the S.O.C. and an ASC Master Class participant.
