The Story
THE PROJECT
Shh… A Recordings in Progress is an experimental visual album that tells the story of the masked Joakim. As the story unfolds, Joakim falls into an intense relationship with his lover, Sita. The two intertwine in a twisted dance of love, lust and substance abuse. When Joakim hits rock bottom, it becomes unclear whether he will fall to his demise or persevere.
THE MISSION
This visual album is directed by filmmakers Miles Toussaint Brewster and Kendi King, co-founders of New Negro Productions. They are unapologetically black storytellers who believe in the power of filmmaking to heal wounds, make art with a purpose and create a new more cooperative world. The goal of this project is to give Black and POC artists a chance to do what they love while being in a community of like-minded artists. SARIP is where collaboration meets unadulterated creativity, all centered around a relatable coming-of-age story.
THE CAUSE
The money raised will primarily be used to pay the dozens of artists involved in the production of this project. Cinematographers, gaffers, production designers, sculptors, painters, and storytellers will all be compensated for their hard work. The rest of the funds will be used to pay for equipment and studio time.

About This Team
Kendi King - Co-Director
Kendi King began her studies at NYU Tisch Film School and completed a B.A. in Documentary Filmmaking at Spelman College. She is an ambitious writer/director of both stage and screen. Her passion lies in uplifting unheard stories from underrepresented communities.
Kendi has professional experience in film production & post across all genres, from traditional narrative features and documentary series to cutting-edge interactive media and video games. She’s worked for industry leaders such as Netflix (inaugural post-production intern), HBO (assistant sound editor, ‘Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show’), and NBCUniversal (Original Voices Fellowship). She is an Emmy-nominated director (Sports Emmys ‘24), and was most recently named the Mountainfilm Emerging Filmmaker of the Year (2024).
She is a graduate of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences ‘Gold Rising’ program. Her most recent projects as writer/director include a 360-degree Virtual Reality short film funded by the Spelman Innovation Lab, and a proof of concept for a narrative TV series that successfully crowdfunded $14,100 on Seed & Spark.
Kendi is currently the Program Coordinator at Rada Studio in Brooklyn.
Miles Toussaint - Co-Director
Brooklyn-born and raised, Miles is a filmmaker, musician, teacher, and former Division 1 basketball player with a B.A. in International Relations and an M.S. in TV Producing and Writing. He is a film director, first and foremost, with a passion for art with a higher purpose.
Sayidana - Lead Producer
Sayidana Brannan-Douglas is an accomplished and skilled documentary director and producer who has worked with award-winning filmmakers both domestically and internationally with work featured on streaming platforms and selected for film festivals.She is dedicated to telling stories that amplify underrepresented voices, have cultural impact, and spark positive change. Sayidana graduated from Stony Brook University with a dual Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Technological Systems Management. While in college, she founded her own production company called SBD Media where she began her career as a freelance videographer creating promo videos for local businesses.
This helped her develop a sharp eye for authentic storytelling which led her to documentary filmmaking. Sayidana enjoys the documentary medium because it allows her to both educate and entertain. Starting in 2021, she self-produced and self-distributed a 3-part short docuseries called “Ownership” which spotlighted the next generation of Black-owned businesses in New York, and she released a new episode annually during Black History Month.
Sayidana then began working as an Associate Producer on network documentary series, such as the show “Down in the Valley" which is streaming on STARZ and is based on the scripted TV show P-Valley, as well as season 8 of the travel and food show “Somebody Feed Phil” which is streaming on Netflix. Sayidana’s latest short documentary is titled Eat My Words and it marks her debut into the world of film festivals. The film is about a dynamic Black-owned bookstore in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn called Adanne Bookstore that is using its space to create community and connection during a time when many are losing safe spaces and navigating the effects of gentrification.
Her film premiered at the Urbanworld Film Festival in October 2025 and then went on to be an official selection of the Big Apple Film Festival. It will screen in more film festivals later this year in other parts of the country. Sayidana prides herself in creating work that centers culture, care, and community.
Epiphany - Producer
Epiphany is a young creative from Brooklyn, NY interested in film and music video production, with specific concentrations in cinematography & editing. When she’s not on set, she’s probably baking, making friendship bracelets, or attempting a new thrift flip!
Lauryn Charliah Allums - Producer
Lauryn is a writer-director, producer, actor, and overall artist. She's been creating for YouTube for years, reaching more than 1,000 subscribers. She studied Film and Television at NYU Tisch, where she became the first recipient of the Maura Mandt Storytelling Scholarship. While in school, she worked for Marvel Studios, MGM, Omaha Productions, New York Film Academy, and Stay Gold Features. Currently, she works as a sales assistant for AMC Global Media. In her free time, she continues her creative journey.
Gideon Harrison - Associate Producer
Gideon (she/her/he/him) is a non-union writer, producer, and filmmaker, currently based in the Pacific Northwest. She specializes in independent film/television, marketing, and new media - especially regarding content that tackles sexuality and gender. He is passionate about making space for previously unheard voices in terms of marginalized media, especially those of LGBTQ individuals, women- aligned individuals, and BIPOC. She believes it is incredibly important to include the opinions and perspectives of those who have previously been ignored, both for her generation and those to come. He hopes to assist in making the entertainment world more accessible and representative of the community it serves.
