The Story

This project was originally a short film idea we conceptualized during our 24-hour film project series last year. In 2020, we challenged ourselves to create 12 short films in a year and each project was completed in a 24-hour time span. We made everything from comedies to westerns and of course, lots of horror films. I have always been a huge fan of horror films with some of my favorites being Halloween (1978), Scream (1996), and IT Chapter Two (2019). Those films are some of the inspiration for this one as my goal was to create something thrilling, scary, and comedic with a killer that could be just as iconic as Jason Voorhees or Michael Myers.
Our story follows three unsuspecting kids from LA as they hurry to finish the latest episode of their cheesy 90s mystery show, Mystery Adventure Files. Together, the crew makes a very low-budget show that doesn't seem to garner much attention and is slowly losing funding by the hour. Sebastian makes a desperate attempt to up the show's production value by flying them out to the location of the mystery they're featuring on the show and interview a family member of the primary victim. They realize the more they dig into the cases that there is more to everything than just a few simple disappearances and that there may be a killer involved.

Horror films have always held a special place in my heart. It's through horror that we get to explore our own humanity; the good and the bad. They scare us, they thrill us, they gross us out, and they make us laugh. It's the one thing we can't bear to watch; however, we can't seem to look away either.
My 13-year-old sister and I have the tradition of watching scary movies every fall in preparation for Halloween (it's literally our favorite holiday). I was inspired to create this film because I feel that there are not enough horror films that are just fun to watch. The horror genre is heavily oversaturated with sex scenes, nudity, and torture porn that doesn't often serve the story and isn't as entertaining as studios would like to believe. Saudade is different because it will have that nostalgic 90s atmosphere with a few twists and surprises along the way. I feel this needs to be made because I want to create something that sibling duos, best friends, parents, and teens everywhere can enjoy.

While we've been paying out of pocket for the smaller things needed for this film, we need you to help us fund production. We need to cover the cost of feeding our crew, traveling, and lodging. With your help, not only will you be helping us make an awesome horror film that will be loved for years and years to come, but you will be showing the world that women can do anything they put their mind to. We want to be an example to young girls everywhere to follow their dreams and pursue their goals. We feel that this is the perfect time to make this film happen because women are finally finding a voice in the horror genre and we want to be a part of that.

$13,109 is our goal to cover the cost of making the film, but $10,487 is the minimum we need to receive the green light and cover the cost of flying out to Minnesota.
- If we raise $11,000 We'll be able to cover the minimum costs of travel, food, and lodging
- If we raise $13,000 We'll be able to cover set pieces needed to create an authentic 90s atmosphere
- If we raise $14,000 We'll be able to cover the cost of creating convincing SFX (we're gonna need a lot of blood)
- If we raise $15,000 We'll be able to cover the cost of everything needed for the film and post-production
- If we raise $17,000 We'll be able to cover the cost of creating promotional material and film festival entries
Sharing our campaign on your social media is as helpful as a donation. And doing both goes a long way to helping us bring this film to life! Every bit helps and your support on this project means the world to us!!
* In addition to all this, making a production during the pandemic has proven to be quite difficult; however, we feel that we're up for the task. We have been taking all the necessary precautions to ensure everyone's health and safety by conducting socially distanced rehearsals through Zoom, encouraging our cast and crew to get vaccinated, and continuing mask and social distancing practices where feasible.
We want to extend a huge thank you for checking out this crowdfunding campaign and hearing our story. This project means a lot to us and we can't wait to share it with the world.

About This Team
We have pulled together an awesome team full of talented, young faces who are giving their all to get this project off the ground!
For this project, I have partnered with my genius DOP, Faith Rodriquez, to serve as commander and chief of our lighting and camera departments! We've worked together on countless films and she definitely has an eye for cinema. Faith has years of experience working in the media field and her images are absolutely breathtaking. I also brought on my good colleague Jamie Hoffmann as my writing partner and 1st Assistant Director on set. We've worked on a few sets together and she's always on top of things when it comes to keeping us on schedule. She has years of experience in theater as well as experience with stunt coordination which is what makes her the perfect candidate to ensure everyone on set is safe and timely during production. In addition, I've also brought on Jayla Johnson as our producer to help us make things happen! She's a talented young student from ASU and she's new to the industry. I'm so excited to work with her because I believe she has what it takes to bring this project to the next level. It can be hard to get a project off the ground with an almost all-female crew, especially in an industry where women are often underrepresented; however, we believe we can help bring change to the industry by continuing to pursue our passions despite the obstacles that we may face being a group of young women who are all fairly new to the game.
