Mission Statement

As an artist, I like showing everyday problems taken into maximum overdrive. In this film, the example will be showing the consequences of people taking advantage of vulnerable people, and to show the anxieties and struggles of dealing with peer pressure.

The Story

Scam Likely is a comedy thriller that explores the world of grifting and scamming gone horrendously offtrail. The film combines comedic elements from late 2000s and early 2010s comedy thrillers such as Pineapple Express and This Is The End, along with putting a spoof on the mafia movie genre (The Freshman, Analyze That, etc.).

Characters:

Albert

Albert is the embodiment of an average Reddit user, ie: A lazy, dirty young man who only cares for his own personal gain. He thinks crypto is the future, and relies on constant improvisation to get out of situations.

Benny

Awkward and only wanting to help others, Benny is a man who has intelligence but lacks wisdom. The only thing Benny hates more than disorganization is confrontation, and will sucumb to any demand, as long an issue can be avoided.

Influenced heavily by director and writer Edgar Wright, the dialogue and character development rely on the chemistry between two characters flawed for opposite reasons. Humor is used phsycially and dialietically to show the hero's journey both protagonists endure.

Don

The antagonist, Don, is a starical spin on mob bosses in film and television. The goal is to make Don a famous celeberity figure, where his crimes are forgiven due to the "clout" he owns across social media. A take on how western society tends to glorify the wrong people.

Filmmaking (Location and Camera)

The Safdie brothers inspired the camera, lighting, and setdressing factors into the film. The living space the two protagonists occupy are aimed to give off warm and intense color schemes, with harsh lighting and heated conditions to make the characters more anxious than ever before. The camera plan is to get up and personal with the two, to create claustrpohiba between the characters and audience; make the viewer feel as uncomfortable as the characters are (Examples: Uncut Gems, Good Time)

FUNDS NEEDED

Moviemaking...is hard to create, especially as a student. On top of tuition for a school in Manhattan, I have to endure the daily task of budgeting life as a New York City citizen on top of that. My school provides me with no help during this project, leaving me to create this film with only the limited resources I have. I am not asking for much, my goal is to raise enough money to provide transportation and food for my cast and crew, which sadly is not cheap. Other expenses will go to resources to make the set and production run smoother, which includes:

Covid-19 rapid tests, since every cast and crew member requires a negative test result to work

Snacks and water and coffee, to make sure everyone is energized and positive on set

Equipment my school does not provide, in the lighting and grip department

Conclusion

Any help is good help! I am proud to be a student at the New York Film Academy, and proud to be directing a film with a cast and crew I have grown with for three years now. If you are not able to help via this website, you can share the news about this campaign and the film itself! Talk to friends and family, and spread the word around all form of social media that you have access to.

Thank you!
