Mission Statement

Scratched is a horror short based on Billy Wilder's The Seven Year Itch. An homage to 50's cinema, 90's slashers and highlights the timeless tale of women not being taken seriously by men. This is my first short, so it's a big step for me as a filmmaker, and I plan to use it in my visa portfolio!

The Story

Hey everyone! I'm Jenni, an aspiring filmmaker / editor! I'm originally from a small town in the North of England, but I moved to Los Angeles in 2022 to continue my film education and make movies in the film capital of the world! The first of which being SCRATCHED!

The idea for this film crawled into my brain when I was 17, and obsessed with both Golden Era Hollywood movies - Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Top Hat, Sunset Boulevard - and classic horror slashers - Scream, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th. These all got scrambled up in my head, and from that pile of bouffant curls, transatlantic accents, blood curdling screams and fake blood, Scratched was born! It's a horror spin on the Billy Wilder classic The Seven Year Itch, mixed with the opening scene of Scream.

The story is set in 1950's New York and follows THE GIRL (our Marilyn) as she enters the building she is staying in for the summer. She overhears MORGAN saying goodbye to his wife ELIZABETH as she escapes the city for the summer. The Girl comes to find out that every 7 years, a killer runs rampant across the city. Will Morgan come to The Girl’s rescue, or will the killer's seven-year-itch get Scratched?

Nearly a decade (and a move to a new country) later, now feels like the right time to get Scratched off the page and on to the screen! The main theme of the film is men not listening to women, and their concerns not being taken seriously, which unfortunately rings true today more than ever. It's a piece I want women to see themselves in, and I want men to learn from and to see the dangers of not valuing women and their concerns.

This movie is also really important to me because it will allow me to build my portfolio to apply for a US work visa. A portion of the funding will go towards submitting it to film festivals, and the more festivals it gets in (and hopefully awards it wins!) the stronger my creative portfolio will be for when I finish school and apply for residency in the US. It's been my dream to live in LA my whole life, and being accepted for a visa will allow me to continue to make more movies in Hollywood! As this is my first film I also hope it will allow me the opportunity to showcase my talent and present more opportunities to make the other films I've got cooking in my brain (of which there are many!) Pre-production is still in the early stages, but here are some visual references of what I'm hoping to recreate!

I'm so proud of this idea (and of all my friends who have helped me develop it!) I really want to make the movie as good as it can possibly be, which really comes down to the authenticity of the set decoration and costume design, and antique props aren't cheap! I really want to sell the period of 1950's New York, to both honor that style of filmmaking, which feels lost in the modern age, and to highlight the history of women's concerns being pushed under the rug by men.

Every single dollar (or pound!) contributed will go towards the production design - props, set dressing, costume-, equipment -cameras, lights, microphones-, and most importantly catering! I couldn't make any of this without the wonderful crew I have on board and the least they deserve is a good meal!

If you can support this fundraiser or even just share the link, it would mean the world to both the 17 year old me who dreamt up this idea in the first place and could only dream of making movies in LA, and to the 26 year old me who is finally crazy enough to move out to California and make it happen!

lots of love (and lots of fake blood)
