Hi, my name is Spencer. I am a Hollywood Fringe veteran who has worked both on stage and behind the scenes, and I have supported close to 500 shows (seen so many shows) since being a part of Fringe since 2017.

Mission Statement

My goal with this show is to create an outlet for creatives and professionals to tell a story that doesn't always get told through musicals: using a cappella harmonies, actors playing their own instruments, and through the lens of lighting, costumes, and choreography for a new twist on sea shanties!

The Story

SYNOPSIS: Six sailors adrift at sea with nothing but music and their instruments -- what better way to stay connected than through music (and in this case, sea shanties)? In the vein of CHOIR OF MAN and SIX, BLOW THE MAN DOWN: A SEA SHANTY MUSICAL aims to bridge the gap between theatre and storytelling, musical and cabaret, and everything in between.

WHO: My name is Spencer, and for those that don't know me, I have been involved as a participant or behind the scenes at Hollywood Fringe since 2017, often volunteering my time to create theatre and the bring the magic of art to life each and every day.

WHY: With the arts still finding their footing since the pandemic, I wanted to bring a unique concept to the stage -- creating a new and unique look on performance and what makes theatre so exhilarating and creative, and I need your support to do it! I'm a musician who loves sea shanties and wanted to share my love for a niche genre with an expanded audience!

HOW: From an idea to a script, the production is ready to have a life on stage. The Hollywood Fringe Festival is an exemplary venue to showcase this type of non-traditional theatrical storytelling, but it is not a cheap festival, and in fact, the costs add up rather quickly -- even for costs we often overlook, such as insurance, filing paperwork, props, recording and archiving photos and videos of the production, and so much more (the list goes on!). With your help, each of you are helping build a piece of theatre history and helping me ctheatre magic. Once we reach our goal, any funds raised outside of asking will be used to enhance the project with better access to creators, rehearsal spaces, venues, sound and lighting design, and would truly allow this project to stand out. From now until the end of the festival in June, we plan to use the funds to cover our upfront expenses and the friends (read: incidentals) we made along the way.

Creator Note: Theatre keeps me alive. It fuels me every day. And I'd love to tell my story so that others can be fueled through the passion and power of storytelling.

About This Team

Creator: Spencer Frankeberger (that's me!).

I'm an award-winning producer, actor, director, and an improviser. I'm an MT-BC (board-certified music therapist) and a huge fan of theme parks. I play Fantasy Football and love watching movies. I have experience behind the scenes and on stage and on camera. I understand what it takes to create a story, and I have the drive to make it happen. Anyone that knows me knows my passion as a Capricorn is transcendent. I will make sure everyone and everything works well and is having a good time, even at the detriment to myself.

I'd love to have the opportunity to create this story with others -- and relieve myself of the burden and pressure of financial support -- and that's what I'd love from you!
