Storyline:

"Semilla del Desierto," written and directed by Sebastian Parra Romero and produced by Andrés Gómez D and Solar Cinema Production Company, embarked on its cinematic journey in March 2023, supported by the Colombian Cinematic Development Fund. The vast majority of the film was done using natural light of the Northern Colombian Desert's mesmerizing outdoor landscapes, including striking night sequences. Remarkably, this cinematic work was brought to life in just fourteen days, capturing the essence of the story through an astonishing thirty-three continuous long shots

The film delves deep into a global reality: the loss of childhood innocence due to the constraints imposed by socioeconomic circumstances. Drawing inspiration from real-life events in the director's childhood, when he joined his grandfather in the clandestine trade of gasoline in the Colombian desert with an old Renault 18, "Semilla del Desierto" weaves a poignant narrative.

The story revolves around Caviche and Chelina, who are faced with a decision upon discovering Chelina's unexpected pregnancy. Fearing her abusive father, Chelina decides to terminate the pregnancy. To fund the abortion, they venture into the perilous world of gasoline smuggling. Together, they embark on a treacherous journey through a nightmarish landscape, confronting daunting challenges and revealing hidden truths. In the harsh, unforgiving terrain, their love is tested to its limits as they strive to survive and find a way out.

As the film enters its post-production phase, Solar Cinema extends a warm invitation to the Seed and Spark Community to collaborate in adding the final touches and compensating the dedicated artists who have toiled tirelessly on the concluding sound mix, soundtrack, VFX, and marketing. Your support will make a world of difference in bringing "Semilla del Desierto" to audiences worldwide. Your contribution will help ensure this remarkable work of cinema reaches its deserving audience.

About This Team

"I know you might be wondering why I omitted the idea of pure love, that ethereal concept we learned about as children, which our grandparents spoke of, and what it once represented. In this universe, it simply doesn't exist." - Sebatián Parra

" Years, even decades before I decided to make films, I had a conversation with my grandfather, Numa, during which he imparted one of the greatest lessons in cinematography I've ever received: "There are stories that can only be told in one way. Once you discover your unique storytelling style, hold on to it like a piece of Cebu leather." - Sebastián Parra

"To shoot a night scene in the middle of the desert, we only had 15 minutes before it got completely dark, and maintaining an almost 360-degree continuous shot was a dreamlike feat." - David Curto

" This film challenged us to explore creativity to its fullest. Every detail, every texture, and every color was carefully selected. We were looking to transport the viewer to a dystopian world and simultaneously to one that feels familiar and authentic." - Belén Toscano de García

"As a sound technician, my typical role involves supporting the visuals with sound. However, for 'Semilla del Desierto,' the experience was different. The roles were reversed, where sound capture and concept became the primary foundation for the film's production, with the visuals serving as a complement." - Aleix Cuaresma

"I had to find cactus seeds suitable for the terrain and the film. With perseverance, these seeds began to appear in the middle of the desert and the coastal shore. Each of them was unique in nature, and some were starting to break free from their shells." - Daniel Jiménez
