The Story
Do you ever drive along the freeway, hear a song and then imagine the music video? I do this often. And that is how this dance film came to be.
This dance film has been a dream of mine for the past three years since that first freeway drive, and for several drives afterward until I met Justis. From then on we met frequently chatting concept for the first few years before finding the right location and the right dancer.
The dance film follows Kiya as she moves through a passenger train, trying to escape, which symbolizes her desire to escape a feeling of deep heartbreak and sadness. We then follow her as she makes her way outside, feeling free, alive and open again.
This production was/is purely passion fueled and financed. Your donations will go directly to paying for the song license, film festival fees and gear rental. We are currently wrapping up post-production and aim to submit to dance film festivals within the next few months.

Initial notes developing the concept and structure.
A 4am call time and 5am shoot time was heinous, but we rallied!!
The annoying desert gnats were the primary technical issue.

Always problem solving.

And, after a 14 hour day we were still smiling (with the help of several Red Bulls).

About This Team
Director
Sam Heim
Sam has produced more than 30 films from profile pieces to technical gear videos for Petzl America. She finds joy in the dirty, chaotic moments, with the shy stranger and convoluted logistics. Sam has visited more than 15 countries and is comfortable in the uncomfortable. She has a quiet fire, and will fight to share truth, beauty-- and strength of the human condition through documentary films.
Director of Photography
Justis Aderibigbe
Justis is a Utah based filmmaker, with a background in photography and lighting. Working towards being a director of photography he enjoys making small projects centered around the environment, reminding of his home in Dominica, and exploring the details in the film medium that can make work beyond small affectations of feelings for audiences.
Dancer
Kiya Green
Makiya Green (She/Her) is a current student at the University of Utah where she is pursuing a double degree in Modern Dance and Cultural Studies. Makiya had a great time working with various artists specializing in different disciplines to be able to collaborate on this project.
