The Story

5:59a - Wake up! Check.
6:30a - Brush teeth! Check.
7:00a - Coffee with Eric. GET BROKEN UP WITH??? :o
7:05a - Have an existential crisis? Clean? Sulk. Cry... CHECK.
4:00p - Call BFF. Check!
Nia's got a five-year plan: marriage, kids, and a house in Long Island. When her boyfriend, Eric, unceremoniously leaves her for a job in D.C, she scrambles to replace him on her calendar and hits up the girlfriends she ghosted while she was too busy planning a future with Eric. She invites herself to their girl's night out but is wildly unprepared for the cold shoulders and passive-aggressive attacks as she tries to defend her absence.
Sexless in the City is the pilot episode of a series about what happens when an obsessive planner tries to live an unplanned life, and the girlfriends who hold her hand (and her hair!) while she learns to let go. Some future episodes will have other spoofy titles like 4 Broke Girls, Big Bangs Theory, and The Ex-Files. The writers were inspired by their own girlfriends and aim to reflect the hilarious, touching, and sometimes-crazy dynamic of 30-somethings navigating life, love, and friendship in the 2020s.

The Vibe

We're inspired by the vision, style, and comedy of shows like Insecure, The Mindy Project, and Sex and the City. At the beginning of the short, we depict Nia’s perfect world with warm, bright colors and lots of exposure. When she gets thrown into her new world with her girlfriends, the colors become bolder and louder like neon lights against the tapestry of NYC nightlife.

The Crew
We're a team of creatives from diverse backgrounds that met taking screenwriting classes. Our team has been meeting on a weekly Wednesday writers group for nearly two years now and we've grown super close! We're all writers who love story and love NYC. Being able to produce a series together and watch it come to life is a dream come true.

The Monies

Making a short film is a labor of love, but it can also be an olympic sport when it comes to costs. Your contributions will help get us to filming on time. Our current fundraising goal is $9,050, but we hope to raise $12,000 for additional support. Miscellaneous expenses pop up all the time, and sometimes due to unforeseen circumstances. Our budget includes location costs, insurance, crew, props, food, and post-production services.
The Breakdown

Post-Production
After we wrap production, we will submit this film through the festival circuit and also use it as proof of concept for a series. Thank you for your support!
