The Story

Michelle, Amil, and Jay wake up on a cold morning to find their dog missing. After a tense discussion, Amil takes action and plunges into the threatening woods, leaving the rest of the group vulnerable and alone.

This film gives us the opportunity to contribute to the genre we love dearly in a way that feels nuanced and unsettling. Throughout the years we've played the role of audience and have sat witness to some of the most incredible stories to exist while simultaneously experiencing a feeling that has left a hair trigger response of our bodies. The feeling is riveting and the idea that this was calculated by the filmmaker behind it is what grabbed us, and to this day, the grip has not loosened.
She'll Come Back is all of what we believe that can be.

Behind this story exists something profoundly personal and deep in creation. Along with the popular and masterful horror films we've seen, another formative inspiration comes from a place specific to our generation: the internet. To be more specific, internet horror stories and creepy pastas we would read in our youth. There was always something so special about these stories that had a sense of vulnerability and charm in their DNA. These were not well-funded or easily marketable stories but rather quite niche and independent, which allowed the discovery of it to feel so personal and rewarding in return. And as we grew up and kept digging, we realized more and more that the depth of these tales was astounding. We discovered books like "The Wendigo", (written by Algernon Blackwood in 1910) which acts as a direct inspiration for the creature we feel so proud of in this film.
And so, after years and years of horror, we land here. With the reality that the human imagination cannot be competed with. Forever carrying stories that have activated our imaginations and placed us in the path of danger, exactly where those characters were and exactly where our characters are. We want to tap into that feeling and bring it to the screen and to the viewer. We believe that there's a role for us in this mess, and we plan on fulfilling it.

At the core of She'll Come Back's grounded and animalistic themes are the visuals in which they are expressed. We plan to photograph the foggy and cold atmosphere of a still Florida forest during the break of dawn. Taking inspiration from naturalistic and threatening landscapes presented in films such as "The Witch" by Robert Eggers, "Stalker" by Andrei Tarkovsky and "It Comes at Night" by Trey Edward Shults."

It knows where you are. It knows what you think. It knows what you'll do.
Taking inspiration from an old folktale "The Wendigo" that follows four men on a hunting trip as they slowly suffer from a manipulative and unexplainable presence, driving them into a state of mania and distrust for one another, the embodiment of the themes we aim to explore. We want our creature's appearance to hold weight and carry presence on the screen. We want to create an iconic figure equivalent to the fear it creates. Most importantly, we want to create something that feels real.
To create a real experience, we're going to approach the creature design from a practical route, working with Eric "Hollywood" Corbin, a South Florida artist proficient in SFX and creature design.

We aim to elevate our quality of production and She'll Come Back is our opportunity to take that next step. As we enter the production stage, we'll need resources to:
- Rent equipment capable of delivering an elevated standard of quality
- Hiring and housing crew for all 3 days of production.
- Scout and acquire a location/afford all associated costs.
"Our $15,000 goal is the absolute minimum we need to raise for production.
If we raise $16,000, we'll be able to cover the costs of editing and sound design/mix
If we raise $19,000, we'll be able to cover the costs of marketing and film festival promotions (submissions, traveling, etc.)
If we raise $21,000+, we'll be able to contribute to the development of our feature film "I Heard Its Voice".
TIMELINE
Development: January 2023 - August 2024

We hope that with the success of "She'll Come Back" we can get closer to our goal of developing "I Heard Its Voice", a feature film script we've written that follows a group of thieves who flee to a cabin in the woods after a botched heist, where they are hunted by this same creature.

Director's Statements
Gerald Pain:
My life is dedicated to the creation of art. I don't have a choice in the matter. I wouldn't be who I am without the creations of others. I want to contribute to that landscape and create works that resonate with people. And nothing resonates with people more than fear. Fear is a universal language understood by all living creatures, ingrained in our very beings. The goal is to create something so real and so personal, the barrier between audience and film fades away and for the next few moments the events transpiring before their very eyes feel as real to them as their own memories.
Aaron Tyler Gil:
As a young boy, eager to explore the world around me, I have always had a deep connection with nature and the solitude that it provides. But though a broad forest can be easily admired from a car window or a paved trail, once you are miles deep with no sign of civilization, you are soon faced with the reality of an uncontrollable fate. Whatever happens isn't up to you anymore. What was once a world you create becomes one you must adapt to. This fear is subdued once I am surrounded by the ones I love and trust, ready to support and protect if a threatening situation arrives, but my imagination often creates the possibility in which the people I confide in become as treacherous as the very woods outside of the house. I am dedicated to creating a film that authentically replicates the atmosphere, soul and emotional response felt when trapped in these unique anxious circumstances.
