The Story

The Story
Shoulder Season is a narrative short film that follows Mayellen, a lost and recently divorced woman in her 30s, who has been tasked with packing up her late grandmother's beach cottage before it is listed for sale. When a neighbor with dementia brings up old memories, Mayellen has no choice but to confront her grief directly.
Why this project? Why Now?
Shoulder Season was born from the grieving process of actor & writer Anna Clare Kerr losing her last remaining grandparent suddenly in 2021, while still processing the slow loss of her grandmother to Alzheimers a few years prior. The stark contrast in the pace of their departures, along with the universally shared yet uniquely personal experience of grief, inspired this script. Anna hopes this film will bring comfort, a unique perspective, and a welcome levity (in the special way that only films about grief can) to anyone living with their own grieving process.
