Mission Statement

Skipping Town is about friendship and family. Our team is a reflection of the film's heart and soul. Every person in our cast and crew is either a member or a friend of the Geer family. The project will be shot on the Geer family farm, where the team will also be housed.

The Story

On the night of their long-awaited reunion, Gus breaks his parole and must leave town. Too proud to ask for Steven's help, he sets out on his own. Steven, knowing his friend too well, races to catch up to him. The film's thrilling real-time pace is broken up by glittery sun-soaked memories. The past and present collide as the men reunite in their childhood hiding place, an abandoned barn on the edge of town. In the darkness, away from the world, Gus and Steven must face years of shame and guilt.

Skipping Town will film in August, 2025 in upstate New York. The primary location is the writer/director's family farm, where she visited every holiday and summer break growing up. The property has been in the family for four generations, originally a Christmas tree farm. Nell wrote this film for her brother-in-law Gus Halper, to realize a dream they shared of making a movie on the land. Half of Skipping Town's cast and crew are members of the Geer family. The filming location will also house the production team, thanks to the generosity of Nell's aunt and uncle who live there full time. Down the road are additional members of the family, all of whom are helping Skipping Town in some capacity. It is truly a family affair!

We will complete post-production this winter and enter Skipping Town into the festival circuit in early 2026. In the spring of 2026 we will hold private screenings and share the project with everyone who supported this campaign! Please join our family and gain access to filming updates by donating.
