Mission Statement

"SLAPHAPPY" is born from the belief that seeing yourself reflected on the screen helps you process the tsunami of experiences, emotions, + life that hit you in your 20s. Inspired by movies like "Before Sunrise", Kicking and Screaming" + "Palm Springs", "SLAPHAPPY" is about figuring it out, together.

The Story

Hi there-- thanks for visiting our page!! SLAPHAPPY is about two neighbors, Claire and Carter, who are in love but don’t want to talk about it. They go on a disastrous first date - a stupidly long road trip to see Green Day live. As they drive along the countryside, they see glimpses of what their life together could be. The prospect of finding your soulmate is really fun, but equally terrifying, so Claire pulls away and Carter follows. It’s messy for a second and they aren’t sure if they’ll survive for long enough to start, but they're determined to try.

SLAPHAPPY" dives into the turbulent emotions of being a 20something who values intimacy but is terrified of being known. Leaving the structure of childhood (school, extracurriculars, vacation), can be terrifying. You find yourself facing a sea of choices ranging from what to eat for dinner to where you should live. These choices feel paralyzing, and having a partner to make those choices with you is infinitely more comforting than going it alone. This story is about finding that person, and being terrified they don’t want to share their choices with you.

Our movie is quick, witty, and punchy. It feels like Palm Springs, Kicking and Screaming, Ladybird, and Before Sunrise. Imagine your favorite song on the radio, the person you love on a summer night, the first bite of your guilty pleasure snack.

So, anyways, thank you so much for considering becoming a partner in SLAPHAPPY. I've delved into the what and why, but here's a little bit about the who, where, and when, of this project! SLAPHAPPY was first born in 2023 when cowriters Nicole Winthrop and Nabeel Jan met at a premiere at the Museum of Moving Image in Queens, NY where both of their thesis films were being screened. Right after the night concluded, Nabeel reached out to Nicole to see if she would be interested in cowriting a rom com together. SLAPHAPPY was the result of that partnership. Although neither one of them have made an out and out rom com in the past, Nabeel's theatrical background and Nicole's comedic brilliance combined to form a unique partnership that allowed them to find an intentional balance between the oftentimes overwhelming feelings of love and the comedy that arises when you realize the stakes are not nearly as high as you think they may be.

SLAPHAPPY will be shot in April of 2025 with a projected release date of Early 2026. We plan on shooting in New Jersey.
