Mission Statement

This project aims to shed light on what it feels like to be adjacent to addiction and to explore this difficult subject with compassion and care. It asks the question, "How do we remember our loved ones who lost their battle to addiction?"

The Story

**4/16 UPDATE**

WE ARE FULLY FUNDED!!! Any additional funds raised will go toward increasing our allotments for crew, equipment, post-production, and eventual festival submissions and distribution.

Hi, I'm Vince Dixon, and I'm the writer/director of Sometimes I Imagine Your Funeral.

In 2021, I wrote - but never sent - a letter to my sister Lauren, who had been battling drug addiction for years. The letter was angry, bitter, and full of pain I'd kept bottled up inside of me all that time.

Two weeks later, Lauren fatally overdosed.

Now, I'm turning the letter I wrote into a film, both to honor Lauren's memory, and to connect with others who are struggling to help their own loved ones battling addiction. Through a series of vignettes, Sometimes I Imagine Your Funeral explores the complex relationship between siblings Max and Chloe, as Max prepares to eulogize Chloe just minutes before her funeral.

At first, Max focuses on the bad memories, dissecting every moment that might have led Chloe further down the road of substance use.

Part of Max is relieved it’s all over, and Max hates himself for that.

But as he walks toward the sanctuary where Chloe’s funeral will be held, Max is flooded with memories of the good times; moments of beauty in between all the bad.

Those moments of connection between him and Chloe where they weren’t “enabler” and “addict”. They were simply brother and sister.

To help tell this story, we are partnering with Community Fairbanks Recovery Center (CFRC), an Indianapolis-based, non-profit addiction treatment center which will help ensure that we tell this story as authentically and empathetically as possible. Over the years, my sister Lauren actually attended rehabilitation programs at CFRC multiple times, and their work in the community - both in rehabilitation services and their Family Connections program - has done immeasurable good to bring healing to those who need it.

When the film is complete, we will hold screenings with CFRC in the Indianapolis area to encourage conversations centered around how to help loved ones who are struggling with addiction.

And, we'll be filming this all in my hometown of Fishers, Indiana. I'm so excited to bring this personal story back home, and to collaborate with Indiana-based cast and crew alongside our Los Angeles-based team members.

Your contributions to help bring this important story to life are greatly appreciated. And, please also consider sharing this campaign to help spread the word about our film.

Thank you!
